Is my coupler off ? looks like it and drive won't go back in ..

You need an alignment tool to determine if the alignment is off Cant tell from photos. put grease on the tool, put it into the coupler , the coupler will leave witness marks or marks in the grease to allow you to tell if it is centered. If you google mercruiser alignment tool you can find them...

    Conversion

I'm assuming you have a newer replacement block that doesn't have a provision for a mechanical fuel pump? you need to wire it up through a oil pressure switch. If you follow the merc wiring diagram you can see how to properly wire it up. The merc pumps are made by airtex which is available at...

Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec Backfire and no start

Yes you need to put it in base mode to set the timing. As others have said the compression is good enough that the engine should run. It does seem to cough and with no backfire clearly timing should be closer. Agree with NOLA timing or firing order must still be off… can you post a video of...

    Mercruiser 3.7 / 470 Holley EFI Sniper.

Perfect. On the harden one they have a couple small holes on either side of oxygen sensor for cooling, and they claim their anodizing resists the corrosion sometimes seen with aluminum on the raw water side, but may e you can find a way to keep this on the closed side of the cooling

Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec Backfire and no start

Number on cylinder on tdc of compression stroke & rotor pointed at number one cylinder is all you need to worry about, get it running then set timing with light, idle speed and mixture.

Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec Backfire and no start

Not flywheel on the balancer don’t worry about where dist is now you will be pulling it out to retime anyways You are 180 degrees out being on exhaust stroke so #1 will have to move

Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec Backfire and no start

Yes needs to be on compression stroke . If you cant see your rockers to verify both valves are closed put your thumb over the spark plug hole. It will only build pressure coming up on compression stroke not exhaust. if you time it on tdc of the exhaust stroke it will back fire as ignition will...

Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec Backfire and no start

What he said … leave the hold down loose if it doesn’t fire twist distributor while cranking to find a spot where it will run enough to set timing

3.0 mercrusier runs badly after it warms

If you take the coil wire off and dont ground it the energy for the spark needs to go somewhere so it will arc off the coil to where ever it can find a ground. All this say to me is you have a good spark coming off coil As bondo said did you strip and clean the carb internally ? Have you tried...

    Sea Ray 21SPX Electrical Issue

My Sea Ray has a stereo fuse in the harness back by the battery. Did it get shorted when you replaced the battery. Some boats have several hot leads for accessories - did they all get hooked up? Blower motor could have died, strange coincidence but electrical components work until they dont...

1990 Sea Ray 160, Mercruiser 3.0 with Alpha one gen 1

Might be worth verifying your tach is ok before ordering props. Would likely anticipate gain of 200 rpm for each inch of pitch you drop So 4” drop to a 17” three blade would likely get you to 4700 rpm at wot

    Temp sending unit

As long as the penetration depth gets to where it is hot and the ohm rating on them is the same ( matches ohm range of guage) then yes. at room temp check ohms between terminal thread and body on both at room temp and both heated in boiling water. Ohms should change with temp .

Can run a 4.3 Merc without the alternator belt?

Wouldn’t do it either they are are normal flare fittings merc sells a fitting that is a coupling goes from supply to return side flare fittings (they are different sizes) off the steering cylinder. This is how they ship their bobtail engines. all you need to do is take a female flare fitting off...
