    youre supposed to spin the motor about 5 times for each cylinder when taking readings I would go back and redo the leak down test as well. you are still down from spec, however better. I suggest testing your gauge. additionally, the carb is still suspect. especially with your comment in post 82

    Get a jack plate. that notch is to run a short shaft motor in shallow area. remember, every 4" back from that vertical flat area on the toon log at the bottom, means your anti-cav plate goes up 1" (typical setback rules of thumb) your 20" motor may still sit too low.

    check that your gear oil sensor isnt gummed up. use a DVM the mercruiser oil has additives that drop out of suspension and gum up the float sswitch. remove the reservoir. empty the reservoir, use appropriate cleaner (carb cleaner, mineral spirits, diesel fuel, etc) do not try to disassemble...

    My guess is the carb needs to be rebuilt and choke needs to be adjusted. the choke should be a well choke for 1961. my guess is the choke spring is rusted

    Idle is 650 in gear in the water Your compression numbers mean the motor needs a rebuild. The carb is highly suspect
