Need help diagnosing temperature problem on Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-J

I would say 175 is too hot for a raw Water cooled engine. My 5.7 runs at 155, and has done so for 20 yrs. The only times it has went higher was when RW Impeller Shredded, and when the Inlets got covered with a Plastic Bag. Both time the Exhaust Temp Alarm went off and I had slowed down by the...

    Prop advice needed

4400 is usually the bottom end of the RPM range for any engine since the late 80s, so a 17 is already pushing it loadwise. 19 is too much pitch and you risk melting a Piston.

    Adding 100+hp. Would you re-prop ?

With a Closed Cooling System you can use a higher temp Stat, which will reduce engine wear, but on the negative side, raise the temp in the Engine compartment, which will drop the HP a bit

    1995 Johnson 130hp runs crappy

Sounds like someone was trying to set the Timing like it used to be done on a Auto/Truck. The Timing is what determines the Idle Speed, and it will vary due to a lot of Factors, even the Pitch of the Prop will affect the setting As mentioned above, a Link and Sync needs to be done, and the Max...

    Adding 100+hp. Would you re-prop ?

Is the new Manifold, one that is designed for a Marine Engine? Edelbrock makes Marine Intakes that have the Water Passages lined with Bronze, to reduce Galvanic Corrosion, and the resulting disappearance/dissolving of the Manifold

    1150 Link & Sync Question

When you rebuild the Carbs, there is one Modification that you should do, see that black Hose running along the top of the Carb. Remove it from the Fuel Bowl Cover and Plug it with a small ball bearing. Doing that will disable the Auto-Leaning of the Carb's Metering System. It was added to the...

Welcome to iboats It looks like the Hull is definitely distorted. What does the Damage look like on the Inside of the Hull? By a Real Deal, I assume you are being paid to take it off the current Owner's hands. Myself, I would be running away from that one, but it is your money and Time. Just...

Had spindal changed now water coming in back of boat

Welcome to iboats Spinal changed? A loose Timing Chain Cover would be sending Oil, not water into the bilge. When the shop worked on it they probably drained the Block, possibly any Power Steering Cooler and did not reinstall the Plugs in , to insure any water remaining would drain when the...

    Engine dies after 40 minutes

So once it slows down, what exactly does it do when you try to give it more Throttle? Does it Die, or just keep Idling? Does this only happen at 3000 rpm, or does it do it at other speeds? I know you say you checked the tank vent, but is it actually connected to the Tank? Have you tried opening...
