    OMC 4 blade propeller - AMC-444

It is a Prop for an OMC outboard, it is not an OMC Prop. Michigan Prop 4 blade 10" Dia 11" Pitch. It would fit on the Big Twin type of Outboards; 25hp(1951-55), 28hp, 30hp(1956), 35hp(1957-59), and 40hp(1960-76, and the later commercial models).

I rarely noticed any smoke running a 50:1 or 24:1 mix. I usually wanted smoke, to help keep the Mosquitos away

    Broken Driveshaft

Before you spend money on another gearcase, make sure the Powerhead is not damaged. Scored Cylinders/Pistons and warped Heads are common Features of overheated engines. I suspect that Overheating would be one of the reasons the previous owner sold it

'22 Mercury 115 Pro XS, best prop?

I would verify that the Tach is set correct first. Myself, I would ditch the 4 blade, and use a 3 blade, that by itself will raise the PRM, reduce drag, and increase Speed. Dropping Pitch will certainly make for quicker Acceleration, as for top speed? Dropping one Blade will increase top speed...

What is the cause of only getting 75% power at full throttle , but 100% with a bit of choke .

An off idle stumble is often caused by a Lean Idle Circuit. There might be a bunch of Gum/Varnish in the Area, which requires removal of the carb, and removing the Welsh Plugs and cleaning all the stuff out. I have used Power Tune, or Combustion Chamber Cleaner added to the gas, as it is more...

    33 hp Johnson no spark

New Points have a smoother contact area, and are much easier to gap in a consistent manner. Filed points are a lot rougher, and can result in a gap that is different than the what the Feeler Gauge measures. Filing also removes a Harder Surface, exposing a softer surface which erodes faster.

    Mercury Blackmax 150HP idle

Part of the Cowl says 1984 or 85. That was the only year the Brown Decals were used A motor can run and sound fine running on 3 out of 6 cylinders when on the Muffs. It is a different Story once the Motor is in the water, and there is Back Pressure on the Exhaust. Verify that you have a Strong...

    Gel coat vs Epoxy paint

In 1974 our 16 ft Evinrude was painted with an Epoxy paint, it was a very thin coat, and it stuck to the Gelcoat very well, for over 40 years I have been trying to scratch it off a piece of the Dash, the Gray was covered by a piece of trim when the blue was applied.

Normally the nut should remain in place, as the Needle is turned. Is the Needle bent? Is there adequate packing behind the nut, and is the nut tightened enough to keep the needle from changing set point?

What is the main cause of an outboard that's hard to start again after it's already warm

Could be a Heat problem in Ignition System, or a high Fuel Level causing flooding. Todays crappy Gasolines are refined for FI systems where the fuel is under pressure in the lines, but it might flash too easily in a carb where the Air Pressure on it is Atmospheric which is lower, especially if...

    4 to a 2 barrel carb

The differences between Carbs is often not just Jets/Metering Rods, but Air Bleeds(not easy to change), Off-Idle Transfer Ports(pretty much impossible to change), Power Enrichment Circuit Calibration and Metering. A Q-Jet is a prime Example, It was used on just about every engine size over 250...

When taking the Compression, was it done cranking the Motor with the Starter, or using the Recoil? If using the Recoil, that Engine has a Compression Relief System which lowers the Compression to make it easier to pull the Rope, and it would need to be disabled to get the true Compression...

Why can’t I find information on my Mercury outboard using my S/N????

A lot bring in their old "mint" engines, and when given the Estimate, decide they aren't willing to spend $1500 on a 40+ yr old engine, nor do they want to pay for the time to diagnose, and do the Estimate. Some just walk away, abandoning the motor.

Identifying old SS OMC prop size

I can't remember what year that was from, probably early 80s. Some of the Part #s have been superseded, and there have been newer designs since then. At least OMC offered a large choice of Props for the post 68 V4s, for most of the pre 69 V4s, only 3 were offered.
