    a bucket works on an outboard because you can get the water 8" aove the impeller for priming, however will kill an I/O impeller. always use muffs or a bucket big enough to submerge the entire outdrive.

    Exhaust with water is under 220 degrees. Rubber melts at 250 degrees. Exhaust with out water is 900 or higher Consider the flappers toast

    You also burned the flappers out and toasted the rubber hoses I would spend the $75 on the impeller kit and do the work yourself. Also, add a $180 bellows kit and alignment tools Then spend the $200 for rubber bits for the exhaust

    like Kenny said, the marine water pump is designed for marine use. unless you rebuilt the motor and changed the AQ271 over to heat exchanged cooling, that pump will fail in a short bit of time.
