    Your boat is 25 years old. Could be your motor doesn't have power steering, could be your helm and steering cable are shot, could be the drive swivel shaft is corroded. Is this an outboard or I/O? What trouble shooting have you done?

    do not fill the boat with water. that simply overloads your trailer. put the boat in water and use a sharpie to mark the rivets. then rebuck the old rivets. google bucking rivets with two hammers.

    one wire is the ignition reference, one is the idiot lamp. S = Sense wire. this is purple and comes from your key switch L = Lamp. this is a ground feed to your lamp (the other side of the lamp goes to the ignition switch.)

    What does your issue have to do with the OP's thread? the 6 questions in the sticky at the top of the forum take the trial and error out of the prop selection. Additionaly with a single gear, you can never get the best holeshot and the best top end with a single prop.
