    The wiring plug made for a neat installation.-----No tools required to install the motor on the boat.-----No tools required to remove motor from the boat.----I am sure you can figure out an economical way forward.

    25hp 3cylinder starting in reverse

    Do EXACTLY what I say.------Mark the lower shift rod and upper shift rod.----Disconnect shift rods making sure the 2 shift rods do not turn.--------Remove lower unit.-----Try to screw the lower shift rod into the lower unit.----If it turns , state how many turns it took to bottom it out.

    The plug is a convenience feature.----If motor is permanently installed on the boat it is easy to hard wire it in.----Or use a terminal strip on the motor.

    I could go out and look at a few and do some measuring.----Not going to do it as am comfortable in my chair.---Start by removing the black plastic screens.------State whether shift goes UP for forward or DOWN for forward.

    RPM at cranking speed

    Charge the battery and load test the battery.----Easy ( in my opinion ) to take the starter apart for inspection.----If flywheel does not spin fast enough there will be no spark.

    Have worked on a motor 24 HRS after recovery and corrosion marks were visible on crankshaft.----Have worked on a motor that was submerged in fresh water for 3 weeks.----Every passage way in the motor filled with sand.-----But not a mark or damage visible on any bearings.

    Very hard to make a mistake on this simple shift mechanism.----Pull it out and replace the seal for the shift rod.----Replace o-ring.

    Bypass VRO and use Fuel Pump

    That pump ( vapor pump version ) is listed as no longer available.------I think you can scavenge that broken housing of any one of these little square pumps.-----Used on many small motors up to 25 HP since 1968 or so.----Most shops might have a bin with those used parts.

    Just picked up a 1992 Evinrude 15 HP very clean looking low hrs motor.---Had that outer part of the roller missing.-----Just one scored piston , possibly due to overheating.---Likely find a bad original impeller.-----Easy rebuild here..

    If this boat has an outboard motor was it totally submerged ?------------If so the motor must be looked at and running within a few hrs !!!
