    Correct----There was left over inventory in the mid 1980's that was marketed as COMMERCIAL models.----It was the left over , mid 1970's model with updated ignition.---Different choke / primer set-up-------What is the exact model # of the motor that you are getting the carburetor from ??

    There was a service bulletin that came out in 1994 to move the fitting to the top of the block !!----I suggest you look into the water pump kit that has the instructions to move it.---And other cooling system modification.---Part #432955 factory parts are best.

    The 12 year old is going to be very familiar with that simple 40 HP motor.-----Hopefully it will be seen on Burntstick Lake next summer.----Going to cost more on fuel to bring it there than what the motor and boat will be worth.

    Agreed ----Bearings need to be beefed up to use the reverse ( opposite rotation ) gear with lefthand prop for forward motion !!

    Some want to doubt and argue.-----You want about 120 PSI on your 235.------My guess is you need a better gauge !!

    Run with timing light hooked up 1 cylinder at a time and observe spark.

    75 is way low.----But perhaps find a " known to be good " gauge.------At a true 75 reading here on one of my 82 models the engine would be torn down for work !

    Parts support for older inline Mercury motors may become an issue.----Used parts and a parts motor are the way to go.

    You could make a spark test device with scrap plywood , glue and some wire.--- Such as the cord cut off a scrap toaster or electric drill.-----Costs pennies.
