    In that area I don't see any way of fixing it prior to removing the motor. The motor has to come out if: The O ring is the issue The Y pipe is the issue The bolts are loose (can not get to all of them) The transom assembly

    Assuming this is a 1983 to 1990 Alpha, I don't know what that bolt is used for. You sure this is a Alpha drive?

    Plastic gauge looked good, so might need to be line bored and the crank checked for straightness

    I shouldn't have said it doesn't come off, it does but need to remove the bell housing on the out side of the transom assembly to remove. If the wire isn't flexible enough it could get hung in the bend. HE are normally not used with alpha drives because they don't move enough water

    It should be part of the transom assembly and does not come off. The hose makes a hard turn and down the inside of the assembly

    Here is the A version. Check wiring and note the 2 diodes. The diodes are inline with the wire. Use a ohm meter to check continiuity to make sure doide has not opened
