    seal reached the end of its life 31 years ago. there is no good sealant, however a very find bead of silly-cone would work until you can spend the hour to pull the drive , pull the motor motor and then pull the transom shield.

    transom seals last the life of the boat, and usually longer than that. if you have a leak, you have a transom issue.

    this is red flag #1 that there is a problem. there is a gasket that should be sealing the outdrive. a thick bead of silly-cone means you bought the boat with the problem. make a test drill of the transom (from the inside, 2" above the hull, about 1" deep). if the shavings are light-colored...
