    Thermostat should last decades. What makes you think you have a thermostat issue? If you are overheating, check the raw water pump or the heat exchanger Throttle body needs to come off to access the thermostat housing

    Should be no play radially Axial play would indicate that the bearings are moving in the bores, or the shaft is moving in the bearings. Both which indicate something is awry Did you get good quality SKF bearings?

    Stock is 1.5:1. Not sure where you get your info. However 1.6 on exhaust and 1.5 on intake was common to bump midrange torque slightly without hindering top end.

    With points, 95% of the time, a quick file, set dwell and then timing is all that is needed. Especially in spring after the points sit for 6 months and they oxide over. Most points will last 15-20 years in a boat or longer

    tap the pump with the handle of a screw driver. could be something stuck. or the pump is bad. FYI, they are carter pumps that Mercruiser used.
