    So you have a bad gauge.-----Poor battery and starter motor.----Or a motor that needs a lot of work.-----Test with another gauge.----Remove cylinder head to inspect cylinder walls.-----Your choice.

    That is quite normal for a 2 stroke.----Yes normal.-----You mix oil in the gasoline.-----Some of that oil goes right through the motor without doing anything.-----Just another example of how mis-understood 2 strokes , mixing oil and gas and lubrication on 2 strokes is a mystery to some folks.

    Report the results of a compression test.-----You should have about 140 + PSI on that motor.----Yes 140 PSI or more.

    The thermostat is under the wee cover at the top of cylinder head.----There may not be a pressure control valve on this motor.

    Sorry I am too far away to look over your shoulder.----Perhaps it is just the cover on the cylinder head that needs to be removed for cleaning.

    On the metal OMC tanks of the 1960's and 70's you will see 2 wee pins.----Those are valves.----When pushed in by the hose connecter one lets fuel out of the tank.----The other one is the vent.-----So when a tanks sits in the sun with no hose attached ( cap closed ) it will build pressure.

    The 68 model came with a FIXED high speed jet.-----So someone was working on this motor.-----Perhaps wild guessing and installed a different carburetor.-----All bets are off.------Trouble shooting ( and it is simple ) will find what needs to be done here to get the motor in good...
