    Best to find out why you now have the lower RPM.-----Possibly the boat has added weight ( water logged foam ) or the motor has lost POWER.-----Putting on a lower pitch prop will get the RPM back up.----But is not the correct approach.

    Fact.-----It will rev up in neutral like all motors will.---Even in gear out of the water is really neutral as the prop does no work !!!-----Means nothing.----So what is the model # of your motor ?----I think it is running on 1 cylinder.-----Test compression , post the numbers.---Check spark.

    No-----Same gear ratio as a regular motor.--And a " sail " motor would be for a 20" or 25" transom.-----What transom is on your boat ? -----A heavy slow boat would use a different prop.

    You can take ohm readings on the ignition charge coils.-----Battery charging coils.-----And the sensor coils.----All found under the flywheel.-----If the powerpack is under the flywheel you may have to remove flywheel to test them.-----So what is your motor doing / not doing ?

    If it feels like you hit something it would indicate the clutch dog is worn and it is jumping out of gear !

    What is your motor doing / not doing ?-----Or should I say it is just wires and you can make your own wiring and go to a terminal strip.----No need for the red rubber plug in if you use a terminal strip.

    SEI----Aftermarket is an option.-----Give them a call they will know what you need.-----Need opposite rotation.

    I am not there to observe.-----Could be plug wires shorting to the cowling.-----Could be lower unit jumping in and out of gear.

    Does it rev up smoothly ( boat staying the same speed ) when the slipping occurs ?----Or does it jerk / feel like you hit something with the motor.

    Test with another gauge.----Compression values are way too low.

    What is your motor doing / not doing ?----The trouble shooting on an outboard starts with a compression test.----Just post your numbers.-----A powerhead from up to a 1998 model 115 HP would fit , so there is no reason for the numbers to be the same.
