    Points are set at 0.20"-------Is this thing electric shift ?----Model # and pictures required.----Install a new water pump impeller.----Test the hot light.------outboardbooks.com ------might have a manual for you.

    When water gets inside a motor and on the precision bearings , damage starts.------Corrosion starts to damage parts in a matter of hrs.------After a few days the crank / rods / bearings might be scrap.----A bit of oil splattered on the parts won't help at all.

    The timer base rotates therefor it needs lube.----Need lube on its bore and on the ring that keeps it in place.

    Well many parts were the same year after year.-----Post the compression test values.-----Myself I would not order a single part until I had that salt water mess apart and spread over the work bench.

    Yes they are a very simple motor.----Easy to diagnose and repair.-----The reed valve opens and slams shut up to 5000 times a minute.-----They rarely cause a problem.----I can not see , hear or feel your motor.-----Up to you to have a look at your reed valves.

    Picture of the cowling if it is original.-----What parts do you need ?----Water pump kit is the same from 1980 to 2005 for that style motor !!

    If the lower unit is on your work bench and the flywheel does not turn.-----I would say the motor has to come apart.----Start with pulling a cylinder head.----I think your are in for an EXPENSIVE repair job.

    Remove the drive ----Remove the motor.---Rebuild the transom.----Opportunity to make it stronger than when new.-----But inspect stringers under the floor as well before deciding on the transom makeover.

    Step #1 is to remove the little plate on the distributor pulley.---Then look for the arrow on the pulley.---Then put #1 piston to TDC.

    Most control boxes limit the amount of throttle available for reverse.---No need for full power in reverse.

    The cork float is still listed as the replacement today.----In my opinion that means it is very reliable.----OMC / BRP would not have that available if it was et up by ethanol in fuel. !!----I would not hesitate to install one.
