    Find the fuse on the motor wiring harness,----Near the starter solenoid.----A wee black rubber device / plug that pull apart.----If you had wires backwards you might as well order a rectifier too.

    This particular motor has roller bearings ( not a ball bearing ) at the top of the crankshaft.-----And a roller bearing for center main.------A ball bearing for the bottom bearing.----Roller bearings MUST have clearance to operate.----Therefor we need a dial indicator reading.-----Other guesses...

    Water in the fuel ?----Drain float bowls and have a look.----Just 1 screw on each carburetor.----Costs nothing to check.

    Everybody picks on the carburetors for some reason.-----Compression test is first thing to do.

    I think it is not a true Evinrude product.-----It is one of them there offshore motors.----Marketed by Mercury, Johnson , Evinrude and others.----Check that out on Mercury parts pages.----You will find a near identical motor with black paint !

    I would say your serial # falls in the first group.-----Clearly not in the group with 7073473 as the first serial #.-----Your location ??----What parts do you need ?

    No thermostat was ever installed at the factory on these engines !!

    Put a dial indicator on it and tell us how much movement.-----Tiny fractions of an inch mean nothing at 1000 miles away.

    Why compare to a car.----The car has a pressurized cooling system.----The outboard floats / runs in it's cooling system with pressure to push water through it.----Lots of water to keep it cool at full throttle and load.

    Did not go to the 3 minutes till now.-----Best find out if it is running hot.----Is there an overheat sensor in the cylinder head?-----Can you hold your hand on the exhaust cover with motor at full throttle ?
