    The motor would have the electric primer valve.----Pushing the key in while cranking would be the same as using a spray bottle.

    It would depend on the system.-----Yes I have mounted the Mercruiser / Mercury outboard pump and reservoir inside the boat for the mid seventies OMC trim units.

    Reed valves are very reliable.----Doubt they are the issue.

    Take these simple steps.---------Run with a timing light one cylinder at a time.----Observe the light.-----Run with air box cover off.----With a STRONG FLASHLIGHT observe fuel coming up the main nozzles and compare.---Perhaps test run with another tank and hose.-----Install new fuel pump diaphragm.

    There really is no such thing as a " tune up " any more.-----Electronic ignition .----Timing does not go out of adjustment.---Fixed jet carburetor.----So post compression test numbers.

    I do not believe there are adjustable slow speed mixture needles on a 1997 model SPL crossflow motor.

    Stator can be checked on the motor with flywheel in position.----Just find the wires.

    What ohms do you read ( 0.7 ohm ) on yellow wires.----And yellow wires to ground?----Brand new battery ???----I would still have it tested.----A quick and free service at most shops !

    Actually the powerhead has been painted and may well be a recent rebuild.----Serial # on the engine the same as the tag on transom bracket ?

    Do you run fuel out of the carburetors when boat is not in use for a while ?-----If not then clean the carburetors.----Replace float valves.
