    Your post means very little without pictures or video of it running.-----The markings on the tiller are only a guide.------Do not go too far from the dock until motor proves to run properly

    Problems reconnecting the lower unit

    Just make sure that the notch on the shift rod lines up BEFORE you put the bolt in.-----Then it will shift just like before you took it apart.

    That is another topic but no it does not matter.-----You just have to make sure lower unit and control box are in sync on assembly.-----How many fasteners on your work bench now ?

    The 79 carburetors are likely exactly the same as a 1980 model.-----Good spark and good compression mean nothing.------What are the numbers found with a known to be good gauge ?----And does spark jump a gap of 7/16" when cranking it over ?

    Port side of the motor.-----Half way down the motor.-----Level with lower mounts.----Same plug as oil drain for gearcase.----Should be easy to find !!

    This might seem like a dumb question ... But!

    There is something wrong with electric choke !-----Try moving the solenoid.-----Or the motor is not drawing enuff air to pull fuel into carburetor throat when cranking.--Nozzle gasket is in place in carburetor ?------Year / HP / Model # of this motor ?

    That be funny and strange.-----I have 3 of these motors.----I can find the drain plug !!!!----And the engine oil plug appears to be the same part # as the drainplug for the gearcase.

    Those pumps operate on a PRESSURE pulse.-----Factory ones are very reliable.------What is the motor doing / not doing.

    I do not believe it was built by Tohatsu.----Oil drain screw is shown on port side exhaust housing..-------307551 is part #

    The rubber hub is not a factory replacement part.-----Prop shop may have it.-----Take it apart , inspect all parts.-----Then make a plan.

    The spline is the same count and size.-------The length of spline and sealing arrangement is different.-----Your local expert shops can help you with a " work around "------It is not the end of the world.

    The first thing I would do is take it apart for inspection.----Check bushing above pinion gear.

    The 6 digit casting # is usually found in a cavity near where the exhaust goes out.----------May have to do some cleaning to reveal it.

    What is the reason for the question.------I think a lower unit from a 1978 is the same as one from a 1998 model V-4 90 & 115 HP for the crossflow models.

    Well.-----These powerheads all look the same but they are not.-----Contact the supplier of the rebuilt head.------They will know what is wrong and what to do.-----There were slight difference in fit-up of driveshaft and crankshaft spline.----This change occurred in the 93 / 94 models I think
