    Not a VP expert but have found the newer VP rams are very close to the Merc. The Merc has two pins with cotter pins holding each. One supplies the hydraulic assist and the other is pinned to the tiller (outdrive).

    Howdy Magnus The sleeve should slide over the boot end and be flush with it. If the boot is positioned as shown in the pic below, the sleeve should side on with soap.

    If there is a hole thru to the water jacket, sure water can come in there. Is this the spot your talking about? Now if you have batwing style exhaust manifolds, these have caused many issues with hydrolock and water intrusion. This is for 4.3 but same style for V8
