    You have to find how excessive compression gases are getting into the block, rings are most likely but a hole in the piston would suffice..

    Probe the drain holes until no water comes out. I missed a manifold years ago and it froze, cracked. I poked it once but that wasn't enough..

    Worn piston rings is a good place to start. Check compression, if oil and pressure are slipping by the rings the crankcase will smoke..

    Well you should be able to achieve 4 or 5 knots so be aware of the tidal currents.

    That would depend on the mount. The type that swings back and away from the transom would allow some clearance..

    Your fortunate to have enough space to do this. Most folks would have to pull the engine..

    Enough power is subjective, how fast do you want to go? It should be enough to plane the boat...

    My BIL did the same thing in the same game. He just couldn't quit. He was a wizard at the computer and death is the only thing that stopped him.. don't push too hard it just ain't worth it..IMHO. :)

    You need to do some measuring, I suspect it will fit but routine maintenance will be difficult.

    Your steel winch hook wore the aluminum eye. After you repair it maybe find an aluminum hook..

    Glad you solved it, 900 to 650 RPMs is significant. 900 will make it difficult to disengage.
