    The End

I will be pulling out the boats next week. Wife gets a knee replacement Wednesday this week, I get colon surgery mid October. Ugh…..

Should I redo the pink RV antifreeze that I already used last week to winterize Merc 5.0?

Yes, drain the power steering cooler. The pink will get you by, but I'd drain it out myself. If you got enough in to displace any residual water it should be fine. Remember, air don't freeze. be sure the exhaust and block are done. As I said, air don't freeze, I drain mine and leave it sit, but...

    Stuck Transom Wood

Yes. It will tear you up in the worst way. Keep the guard on and firm grip. Not recommend for a rookie. Heck, I’ve done a lot of things but that one was as scary as it gets.

    Pictures.

Smokstak.com is having issues also. They have it fixed now but they had to go with a different server.

    Lights?

They should come off somehow. Try linking a picture from a host site, the pictures aren’t currently working on this site. Mods are trying to fix it.

    Stuck Transom Wood

I’ve used the chainsaw attachment on the angle grinder. Dangerous as all get out, be very very careful if you go that route! Also a good respirator and Tyvex suit to protect yourself. I actually didn’t like using that attachment but there was no way to remove the cap on that particular boat. It...

    winterizing question

I use -100 for mine. Drain all water, hook up muffs, at times I use a pump for running it through as some boats have the motor mounted water pump and those don't prime well on just a hose. On my little 3.0 I simply drain as it's easy to get all the water out. I leave the -100 in as it's fine in...

    Barefoot skiers?

I pulled a barefoot skier once on a modified boat that was used for ski shows. He could pull 8-10 skiers for the show. He instructed me to nail the throttle, when the boat was dang near straight up in the holeshot to slam the throttle down, then right back up when nthe bow came down. then at 50...

    Docking Aid

I know the pain. I was docking by myself and the wind was rather strong. Normally i throw the long line at the stern and grab the cleat, I missed. Second throw was a miss also, and the motor quit for some reason. by the time I had a good throw for the third time I had drifted away to far and had...

Automatic bilge pump, not being very automatic

Mine has a separate float. I can trip it by hand to easily see if it’s working. It works every time by hand. But when it’s supposed to work on its own, it doesn’t. I’m replacing the float today. Once I came out to the cabin this summer and the water was up to the deck. Yup new starter installed...

oil pressure sending units dual station SW gauges, exists any single station sender can work?

Take your sender to napa, or look online for dual station senders. They aren't that expensive. I've acquired them from napa. They have numbers stamped on the metal housing.

Why I do not have new boats.

Neighbors pontoon is giving beeps for three years, it's been at the dealer most of the time. First was water in fuel combined with a impeller that looked to be pumping fine, but wasn't pumping enough and going into limp mode or quitting altogether. Next is the beeping that the dealer can't even...

When do you pull your freshwater boat?

I’ve been storing either 1/4, 1/2,3/4, and full. Going on 40 years, never an issue. The only water in the fuel comes from customers. Either their cap leaks, or they got water from the local fuel station.

    I am not perfect.

I went through three interstate batteries in one year with my car, all under warranty. Never again! Wallmart battery lasted me 7 years. Done. Also car quest has good batterys.

When do you pull your freshwater boat?

I’ve pulled when it’s snowing. Not doing that again! Impossible to clean up for storage. But getting it winterized goes fairly well.

    Mercruiser or volvo

I’m a little old school. To me it’s easy to rebuild a carb if need be. But fuel injection is pretty nice too. Had a few opportunities to repair injected Volvos, not to bad to diagnose without having the software or manual's to figure it out. One was running poorly and I even talked to a volvo...

    Mercruiser or volvo

Both use the Chevrolet motor. As far as wich one is good, to me they are fairly equal. I think volvo parts are pricier, but having a boat isn’t really cheap either. Most Volvos have the seawater pumps right out in front of the motor, so easy to change impellers. Mercruiser has the seawater pump...
