You could give us a hint as to what engine you're working on and what the problem is.

Read through this thread before noticing the date, thought you were ready to throw in the towel on the Cruisers!

Light u-joint noise hard turn starboard

I mean, that's always the wrong answer, right? I wouldn't trust greasing them to stop the knocking; damage has probably already happened to the joint.

Acting like a spun prop hub but it's not. What do I try next?

Most likely you're right, but hell who knows. Just threw that out as a "what else can kill propulsion". If a V8 can run with a busted crank, I can see a world where the gears are shredding and moving for a few seconds before smoothing out completely.

Or the drive. Pull the top cap and check out the gears.

2016 Mercruiser 6.2 ECT - long beep every few minutes???

What could possibly go wrong with that? You're going to have to rename the boat HAL9000

    Hole shot, Mercruiser 4.3L

The hole shot is actually fine, except when trying to get me out of the water. Boat loaded, no problem. Certainly this should have more power than the 3.7 that I replaced. Again, I may still have some HP on the table from the intake and carb that I need to investigate, but I'm close enough now...

    Hole shot, Mercruiser 4.3L

Spotter is already in the bow. I can tell you for sure that more weight in the boat doesn't help, regardless of where it is.

    Hole shot, Mercruiser 4.3L

That ain't it. I'm even leaving the cooler at the beach. Short double high wrap deep water start takes a lot of oomph. I can do it, but would like to not have a wall of spray in my face for 20 seconds. So wanting the ideal prop for that; I'm OK sacrificing top end, and don't want to be cruising...

    Hole shot, Mercruiser 4.3L

I think I *finally* have my engine dialed in decently enough to move on to the prop... I have a Vortec 4.3L with an Edelbrock 1409 4bbl carb, supposedly should be around 220hp, but it doesn't seem that powerful. My jetting might not be perfect, and my intake might be hurting me a bit...

    Mercruiser 470 Starter

Hmm, if you didn't know that then I'll need to phone a friend... @Eric 3.7LX Alpha 1 ?

What are the 2 sensor on the thermostat housing?

Poor ground should read low (higher resistance), though who knows, it's a known issue and poor grounds do funny things

    4,3Gi different fuel pressure?

Welcome! I don't know what any of those numbers are... Maybe post a serial number or at least give us an idea of the year and what fuel system.

    Mercruiser 470 Starter

Yes, or your rebuild shop. 470 uses a standard chevy starter.

What are the 2 sensor on the thermostat housing?

Well, that's off. What does the gauge read on a cold engine? What is the resistance of the sender when cold/warm? I couldn't find a resistance value chart for the sender, but other option is to put the tan wire on another gauge after disconnecting the sender from that gauge (fuel, oil, trim)...

What are the 2 sensor on the thermostat housing?

More likely you got rid of all that corrosion so there's less resistance through the circuit now. Are you sure it's reading high, or just higher than before?
  17. nola mike

What are the 2 sensor on the thermostat housing?

You should if you're measuring from the gauge side and it's disconnected at the sender. The sender is the resistance

    Mercruiser 470 Starter

Replace it with a PMGR starter. You can find one for <$100.

What are the 2 sensor on the thermostat housing?

    1. Yes, if it's disconnected at the sender 2. That suggests you're getting power to the gauge, but either the sender is bad or you have a bad connection/break in the tan wire.
