    Bilge pump for Aristocraft 19

It looks like there is a place to put a bilge pump on the right side of the motor (165hp Mercruiser). If a pump was there it would get lower than the current one. The one that came with the boat is just sitting behind the motor, has no float. Is there one that will fasten in the existing hole?

    Aristocraft 19 windshield replacement

I would like to insert a new middle sliding piece in the windshield. What will I need to do? I may also replace the side pieces with some used better than mine pieces. I actually got another whole windshield from a A18 being scrapped.

    Shimming the propeller

Last trip out it didn't want to go into gear properly. I had tightened the prop nut but not torqued it after installing. I find that when torqued the prop is still loose, about 1/16" of play. Looks like all the parts are there. I'd like to put a 1" dia shim in front of the spline washer to...

    Mercruiser 165 manifold water leak

I have water running down the left side of the block from the area above the first freeze plug. It seems to be coming from between the manifold and head. I think I need to pull the manifold and head and replace some gaskets. It seems there is some water leaking (small amount) from between the...

    emergency kill switch

In 1973 they didn't require a kill switch, just an ignition switch. Where would you suggest I put this new "dead man switch" on my Aristocraft 19?

Oil leak on Mercruiser 165 Inline 6

Well, ran about 30 miles today running Lake Tuscaloosa from south to north. Ran good. Problem is oil leaking from engine on the exhaust manifold side, pooling in the indents on the manifold and running down. I replaced the valve cover gasket earlier and thot that would fix it but it didn't...

Pulling in the Mercruiser 165 drive.

I just installed a MC 165 drive for the first time. I had already aligned with the alignment bar. Went in an inch or so and then required more push than I have. I got my tie down strap and use it to apply a little pressure and it went right in.

    Mercruiser ujoint PRECISION (MOOG)# 315G

I just installed a Precision (Moog) 315G from Oreillys AP on my MC 165 and found the caps to be too long and protruded out further than the original. This joint was on the list in the "sticky" thread. Won't get them next time. Had to grind off a little of the cap end to get it to clear the...

lowering engine for drive alignment MC 165 in Aristocraft 19

I have an alignment bar now and it seems I need to lower the front of the engine (straight 6) more than the adjustment nut will allow. I can swap the lower and upper nut since it is a tad thinner. Any other suggestions?

    Mercruiser upper and lower seals

I've got the bellows changed, new gimbal bearing, now back to the drive. Got a "good" used upper that has a damaged (crooked) seal on the bottom where the shaft goes from the lower into the upper spline, and the lower prop shaft seals leak. Is this something I should buy some tools and do...

lower shift cable routing MC 165 in Aristocraft19

didn't look too close to the routing of the old cable so if someone with a boat like mine wants to chime in on the proper routing of the outer cable it would help. I have enough cable and with a few turns it can end up where it is supposed to be so I may be ok.

engine alignment with old drive shaft

Is using an old but good splined drive shaft good for alignments? I used one and to start it would only go in the spline less than 1/2". After lowering the motor it goes in about 1 1/4" easy and a little bump to bottom out. But it is not as easy to remove as some of the utubes. Is an old...

    Gimbal bearing fits loose

On my MC 165 the old gimbal bearing had a snap ring. I have been told to discard it and would love to, it was a pain to remove and will be to put in. I installed the new gimbal bearing and it went in EASY, like with my fingers, no driving like I was expecting. I can pull it out with my hand...

Mercruiser 165 fuel pump vent line to carb

I have an older 1973 165hp with the original mechanical fuel pump. I bought a newer marine type pump with the safety vent to the carb. Problem is my carb doesn't seem to have the fitting that the newer carbs have. Is there a way to safely vent the fuel pump like into the air breather or?

    removing propeller shaft seal

I have water getting into my Mercruiser 165 lower unit. I heard you can replace the outer propeller shaft seal without pulling the unit all apart. Anyone ever do this successfully?

Mercruiser 165 new type lower shift cable

Don mentioned changing to a newer Mercruiser shift cable that goes in from the back, aft, side of the bellhousing and requires tapping out the hole with a 1/4 np straight thread tap. What I want to know is what cable to order? I looked at mc 73723A1 but it looks like it installs from the front...

    Evinrude 15hp impeller change

I have an older 2 stroke Evinrude 15 with a long shaft. I need to change the impeller and wonder if I need to remove the extension part to be able to unhook the shift linkage? Does this outboard have a weep hole? When I ran it the water came out the 2 exhaust ports but nothing out a weep hole...

    changing bellows on Mercruiser 165

I am trying to change the 3 bellows on my 1973 Aristocraft with a MC 165. I am at the point where I need to remove the shift slide or do something because it is evident that slide won't fit thru the shift bellows. I have read the manual but can't beleive you have to remove the cable from the...

    SEI owners experiences

I need to replace a Mercruiser 165 upper in a 1973 Aristocraft19. I am considering the SEI 106 upper as a replacement and would like to hear from members of this forum that may have purchased a SEI drive and had good or bad experiences. This will help me make my decision.
