    gimbal bearing noise and failure

    I have a noise that sounds like a bearing that can be heard best from the rear of the engine on my Mercruiser 165 I6. I intend to pull the drive soon but am using the boat some and wonder what the gimbal bearing does if it seizes or fails? Any experiences?

    shift lever removal on 1973 Mercruiser 165

    I am having trouble removing the cable from the shift lever at the helm. The cable is bad and I need to know the length to order one. We removed the allen screw and thought it would just come off, but it didn't. The rear is loose.

    draining Mercruiser 165 manifold

    Where do I drain the manifold on my 1973 Mercruiser 165 in an Aristocraft 19. I see large plugs on the sides and there are some small (maybe 5/16) bolts on the bottom. Do I just remove the small bolts on the bottom or the larger plugs (look like a 1/2" square hole)?

    My distributor on the Chevy 250 cid straight six is worn, alot of side to side motion of the shaft. Can it be rebuilt, like the bushing replaced, or should I put in a new one and go electronic?
