    Eska 7.5 14038A 1977 no spark

Lawnmowers don't have a rotating ignition plate that varies the timing. No link & sync. Have you actually heard of such a swap?

    Eska 7.5 14038A 1977 no spark

Not really. My approach is to eliminate the easy stuff: Check the spark coil resistance. Check connections. Make sure kill wire isn't shorted. If that's ok the only thing left that affects spark is the ignition plate ass'y. I'd love to know of an alternative to that trigger module.

    Are plastic props junk?

The question of what to use to monitor rpm isn't motor-specific and can be applied to any portable OB or boat that doesn't have a tach.

    Eska 7.5 14038A 1977 no spark

The Eska solid state ignitions are their Achilles heel. Parts are no longer available and good used parts are going for big bucks. The charging coil & ignition module are part of the ignition plate and were never available separately.

    Are plastic props junk?

Well I'm glad to hear plastic is fine for small outboards. Thank you! A related question: IF I'm interested in peak performance and maybe want to try a different prop--what do you all use to measure rpm? I can't recall ever seeing a recommendation on what to use on a little motor. Is one of...

    Are plastic props junk?

I imagine the answer has a lot to do with the hp of the motor. I have a Force 5hp (1990 Merc) that I like for it's light weight. I've only run it in a barrel so I don't know how it performs on the lake. It has the original plastic prop. Do these flatten out under load?

    What type fuel hose?

So it was mentioned that urethane hose is sometimes used on performance snowmobiles. Because of the similarities I asked this question on a jetski forum I visit and a builder there admitted he uses it for visual 'pop' but it needs to be replaced every 5 years or so. No advantage other than...

    A couple basic testing questions

I'm not overthinking it. I'm asking what method we're all supposed to use. My day job involves testing, standards and procedures so getting everyone on the same page is just how I approach things. The answer given is FIVE BRISK FULL PULLS If that's not standard procedure I'm sure someone will...

Fuel setup two outboards, one tank.

Does that happen? My pontoon sits at my cottage for weeks between visits & the carbs never dry out. A squeeze of the bulb when switching over might help insure all bowls are full for awhile.

Fuel setup two outboards, one tank.

In theory the check valves in 2 primer bulbs would isolate each carb from the other but I agree they are so cheap it might not work well. BUT In order for one carb to suck air from the other it would need to pull the inlet valve off the seat. That doesn't seem likely.

    A couple basic testing questions

Consistency is the reason I ask. Can't have everyone doing it different and trying to compare results. Low gives me the torque needed to spin it. High won't do it.

    A couple basic testing questions

SPARK I frequently read here the importance of the spark jumping 3/8" but is that with an inline tester or one that takes the place of the spark plug? COMPRESSION On my low compression Johnson 9.5 I get vastly different compression results depending on how I do it. If I pull the starter rope...

    Sea King identification

Found it. I don't know how I missed this. Right rear corner--for future Google searches. It's a '74 and a parts manual has been ordered.

Yes but I need that model info so I can order parts.

    Sea King identification

It probably is. Looking at photos online it's a mid-70s Chrysler-made VWB model in a particularly ugly wet sand color.

    Sea King identification

A friend just gifted me a Montgomery Ward's Sea King 6 HP. I can't find an identification plate on the leg or bracket. How do I determine the make, model & year of this?
