    Remote control help

Glad that you have it fixed. Any US Marine or Chrysler control will work on that year unless you are using the Mercury thunderbolt ignition.

    Old Airguide "Sea Speed Tachometer.

I will hold onto the tach. It's like brand new, someone will need it for a restoration project. I know that it's around 1971 because the boat and the old Merc are both 71's. The boat sat in a back yard for about 16 years, outboard up. I bought it and replaced the transom and gave the boat a...

    1994 Force 120 controls.

Ok guys thanks for the help. Jiggz was right the tan/blue is the overheat alarm. Purple - keyed power to run gauges and stuff. Gray - sender on tachometer. Brown/white - trim gauge. Black - ground. I put this 120HP on a old 1971 StarCraft 18' SS. It had a Merc 140 that was left up for 14 years...

1994 Force 120HP tilt and trim questions.

I didn't take the motor itself apart but I put power to it and found that the brushes are worn. It will run and then start to jerk. I would say that the bushings/bearings are also bad. There is a Generator Exchange shop in town that rebuild small electrical motors, I drop it off to them.

    1994 Force 120 controls.

Ok, I found a little information on the internet. Black is Tachometer ground, Purple is positive on tach, Gray is alt or sender on tachometer. Still wondering what the Brown/white and Brown/blue are used for.

    1990 Lforce engine Bayliner Capri-

Do as Jerryjerry05 stated, remove the head as the gasket could be bad. Being number 1 the top cylinder, it will be easy to see if the rings did damage. People need to de-carb every season, the rings get stuck on one side and break.

    1994 Force 120 controls.

This 120hp uses the Mercury style control box. It has a plug that runs the gauges at the helm. My question is, there are five wires. One is brown/blue stripe. Brown/white stripe. Purple. Black, I assume is a ground. Gray is the tachometer wire. What are the brown/blue, brown/white and purple...

1994 Force 120HP tilt and trim questions.

Update, replaced the tilt/trim motor, and the problem is cured. Problem is the new motor is a Chinese brand, seems you can't get one made here anymore. I have the old and will see if it can be rebuilt.

    Motor dies then won't start

Most states have a generator and alternator exchange that does an excellent job at rebuilding old outboard starters. When you get it back, it looks new and they warrantee it. I would do a local search. My 1963 Merc 65 hp starter the bushings were shot. No starter for it to be found anywhere...

    Old Airguide "Sea Speed Tachometer.

I have an old Airguide tach that was used on a 1971 StarCraft 18' SS. The outboard was a Mercury 140 HP tower of power. The Merc was stuck solid. My question is will the tach work on a 4-cylinder Mercury "Thunder bolt ignition system? The only number on the tach is P 6487 and on the back 5 GB as...

1994 Force 120HP tilt and trim questions.

Jiggz I see what you said. I believe this was filled to full and they used the wrong oil. This is from a Force Service Manual.

1994 Force 120HP tilt and trim questions.

The service manual called for ATF. My other Force/Chryslers used a 30 WT. non detergent motor oil. This outboard uses the Mercury tilt. On the fill cap it states that the system is under pressure when all the way down and to fill it, the outboard should be all the way up?
