    L & C is a must. Remove the cowling, put it on the lake and go to wot....push down on the carb linkage and see if it surges. Eyeballing the butterfly is easier though and is part of the l&c procedure.

    It should work fine with that HP range...did you perform the link and sync correctly? Is the butterfly completely flat or horizontal at wide open throttle? If so your main jet could be the issue.

    Did you remove that nipple like I suggested? Also, you had air come out the intake? If so that would be bad. Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong, intake manifold?

    Pulses are not from cylinders, there from magnets under the flywheel I believe. Gets much more technical. Lots on the web about it.

    Bob, I have a thirty with a tac but it's at my summer home. AI says 6 but seems like it was the 2. Changing the button though as far as I know won't screw anything up...it just won't read correctly. If you just change it eventually you will figure it out. One disclaimer, this is how I've done...

    Now that's weird. Please explain more. I figured you just ment the hole area of the head where the spark plug sits. Plugs look fine to me as well.

    Agreed with the above experts. In my neighborhood those go for $200 or whatever the market can bare for parts. Fine motor in its day though. The backbone of the JohnnyRude line. 140 to 100.... I'd look for 120 min. Many on here say that it isn't that high and I'm not sure what their talking...

    Pretty sure johnson never made the Ficht motor and I believe Evinrude came out with that model in 1996. You don't want the motor though just in case you don't know. Lots of great JohnnyRude's out there though.

    I have a motor very similar over at my storage facility and might be able to take a look. In the mean time I can say that some motors use those nipples and some don't. Often time there are rubber caps that seal off the ones you don't need and they eventually rot off. Could this be your issue...

    Evinrude just rebranded it I believe. As far as I know, Evinrude/johnson never made a fourstroke but sold other brands as its own.
