    SNOW Common Sense

The wind finally quit here, it was howling loud all night, not sure how much we got, but it's a lot, varies a lot due to drifting. Noticed something interesting, I looked on the PSEG Long Island outage map (we didn't lose power) to see how many people were out.... last night 15,000+ this AM...

    SNOW Common Sense

Yes snow blowers are great, but you have to be careful with them too! Many ER visits because of people reaching inside to clear clogs. Never do that with any snowblower. Already fired mine up and ran the generator as well. Mixed up some more 2 stroke fuel for the little old Toro.... E0 fuel...

anyone use the aftermarket p/s actuators sold on ebay and amazon? looking for feedback

I know the Volvo OEM ones were like a grand or so, these are like 1/4th that price? I bought a couple of nice used ones for my Cobra, the one I installed in 2021 is still working well. Those are the older Bendix style units that both OMC and Merc used, you can rebuild the control valve but the...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Interesting, so about the same weight as (engine alone) a Mercruiser V8, but then you have to add the transom mount/outdrive and you know how heavy Bravos are lol.

Thinking about making a trailer cover... Opinions wanted.

Here on Long Island if something isn’t up to code you can hire a “facilitator” who makes it all good lol. One palm greases the other….

Thinking about making a trailer cover... Opinions wanted.

We got permits for all the major projects we did them being an in ground pool and deck…so when I sell at least that’s covered. The thing is the bank that’s going to write the mortgage will do an inspection and they don’t want to own a house (which they do till you pay off the note!) on a...

Don’t forget when you eventually sell, anything that’s not in compliance can hold up the deal…

Thinking about making a trailer cover... Opinions wanted.

In take your last nickel NYS, I wouldn't even consider doing that. And, depending on what happens, I may be able to exit this overpriced overrated place, in the near future....

Thinking about making a trailer cover... Opinions wanted.

I bought a Taylor Made custom cover for my F/W about 20 years ago and built a wood frame to support it in snowy winters. It has held up well but needs repair of a few tears so I feel it was a very good investment. I hear Taylor Made isn’t as good as it was so if I replace it I may have to go...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I prefer longitudinal engine layouts, it just makes things easier (usually). On the 3 of the 4 Jeeps in our family are like that, the 4th (Compass) has a transverse engine but the access isn't bad. The Subaru is a longitudinal set up as well.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Every so often it’s a good idea to loosen the serp belt and spin the idlers & accessory pulleys if a bearing is getting rough you will likely feel it like a bad trailer wheel bearing.

The bearings wear but also the friction surfaces that the belt rides on wear as well. Yep I'd prefer to do the whole thing in one job, not to replace the belt and then a month later hear the tensioner/idler start to make noise. Last time I did it was at approx 105,000 miles now I'm at 184,000...

Identify the thread of this screw from my boat

Such as those used on Holleys and no other carb lol.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I have found that the old fashioned metal idler pulleys last about 100k miles and are pretty cheap to replace. I usually replace the belt & pulleys at the same time.

I like the remote start & seat heaters in my 2007 Grand Cherokee. Especially now we are at 9*F gusting to 50 mph.

    Engine dieseling

I seem to recall this being common on Merc 4.3s and in fact they put out a service bulletin about this. I would make sure that your idle mixture is set properly and idle speed is not higher than specified. My old OMC 4.3 is also a 4bbl (but a Quadrajet carb vs the Merc Weber) and I have never...

    4.3 crankshaft/housing oil leak - next steps?

I think the oil pan on the newer 4.3s is aluminum, so might not be so prone to rust, I have sprayed my tin one with Boeshield/CorrosionX/FluidFilm etc many times, and it's still in good shape...
