    That is part of the mechanism that locks the recoil if gearshift is not in neutral.. so you cannot start in gear. If it’s hitting in neutral, you can adjust with an adjustment screw (you’ll see it..)

    If it physically pops into neutral, bad clutch dog, of improper shifter phase adjustment. If it stays if forward gear as you increase throttle and lose thrust, you likely have a spun prop hub bushing. Good luck!

    1963 Evinrude Lightwin 3hp

    Any Tcw3 will be fine. Use non-oxy (non-ethanol) gas if available. Ethanol-laced fuel stores poorly and tends to gums up the fuel system. I run all 3’s (‘52-‘68) at 32/1 fuel mix.. some will argue that’s not enough oil (pre ‘64), or too much (newer models), but it works for me.

    Test run with one of those in-line, light-up spark testers (pic). Spark indicator bulb will flash brightly when firing correctly, dim flash or nothing if you have a spark issue. At least narrow it down to fuel or spark. Good luck!
