    A few things to check remove dist cap, bring balancer to the 0 mark , watch rotor and turn motor backwards. Note how many degrees before the rotor moves. This will determine how much slack is in the tining chain and gears. Next verify #1 TDC . TDC and timing mark on balancer should agree. If not...

    with motor off, shift into full fwd. prop should lock ccw. stand on a blade while someone watches the input shaft. Prop turns,shaft turns=coupler issue. Prop turns ,shaft does not= drive issue

    If it was working before and now its not, recheck your installation. Did you bottom out the shift cable in the housing? Did you set the screw in the shift slide correctly? Does the shift slide bottom out in the housing? Is the guide sleeve threaded all the way into the outer sheath?

    Did you replace the small Quad seal between the units. I doubt is the upper shaft seals and no the drive comes off, apart and the seals push up and out from the bottom

    is the timing cover plastic? You may have a pump for a tin cover and it wont seal with a plastic timing cover
