I just acquired a Sears Gamefisher motor that is made by chrysler. I was wondering the year of it and where to get parts for these motors.
Serial Number: 3017
Model Number: 225.587151
Its a black motor and I was also wondering, does this motor shift from the tiller, because there is no shift...
i have a 14' Jon boat that I pulled the transom the other day to reinforce / replace the wood. My transon would actually flex when the motor was throttled, which then would affect the trim of the motor.
So, I decided to replace it and try to possibly reinforce it a bit. First off, the...
Mine is a 76 15.
Is this motor designed that when you twist the throttle all the way down, the motor dies? My motor runs and idles fine, but if I twist it below slow, it dies.
Someone told me that is correct for these motors, but I also own a Johnson 9.5 that idles when twisted all the way...
76 Evinrude 15hp
I put some gear lube in the lower unit when I got this motor a week ago and before I took it out for the first time. The old oil was black.
I am changing it today and was wondering if any water was getting in there...the color of the changed oil was still that golden yellow...
Just making sure, but when you put the end of the shift rod into the connector, you put it until the curved part is where the screw tightens down on it right?
thanks
There is 1 piece I didnt use out of the kit. It was a small clear / white coned plastic piece. Very small. About maybe 2-3mm wide and it made a cone.
I had no clue where it went.
any ideas?
alright, i pulled the carb off to clean and install the kit. that went fine, but I am running into a couple of problems putting it all back together.
first off i cant figure out how the manual rope start component goes back on there, which is sad because it only has 1 bolt holding it in. i...
Mine is manual start and just has the charge coil under the flywheel with the 2 ignition coils on the outside. Has points.
What are my options as far as switching to some sort of electronic ignition. I know nothing about it, but I was curious.
How does it work? and do you not have to set...
Having a hard time getting the flywheel off, i was wondering what methods you guys have used with problematic flywheels.
Can you tap the flywheel from underneath? When you tap it with a hammer or rubber mallet, do you hit it directly from on top, or from the side?
What products have you guys...
76 evinrude 15hp.
my slow speed knob has a notch on the motor that limits it from going a full 360 degrees. When I clean my carb and am about to put it back on the powerhead, where should I set the slow speed needle? I am talking before the knob goes back on?
does that make sense...if I don...
Well I just got the motor today, here is what I found.
note: the guy told me it was firing only on 1 cylinder.
1. the first thing I checked was the spark plugs to see if they were getting spark and both were, which was weird.
2. there is a small chip out of the flywheel, about half an...
The motor I am getting I know like I have said has a stripped out gear puller hole. Now in the picture I have seen of this motor it looks like it might have a possible very small chip on the edge of the flywheel. If this is the case, I will just get another since I think this is a very...
When I look at parts for a 15 evinrude...it has both. My 9.5 Johnson only has the coils underneath the flywheel.
Do some motors have both of these and if so what is the purpose of the one that is not under the flywheel.
thanks
I have a chance at a 1976 Evinrude 15hp motor. 15 is the perfect size I have been looking for my boat. I was wondering if it was worth getting. Here are the known problems. Only fires on 1 cylinder, but has good compression. I dont mind at all installing the ignition components so that...
I have never owned or worked on a merc, but looks like I will be obtaining a 74 20hp. I was just wondering do these use just coils, points, and condensers?
and would anyone know the weight of this motor, its the short shaft.
thanks
Matt
grr...well I had recently put a brand new cylinder head on due to a stripped spark plug hole. After my trip today, I was going to re-torque the bolts that hold the head because the manual says to after the engine has been run and cooled back down to touch.
First one I torqued, it broke..damn...
I was wondering if anyone knew the weight of either of these 2 motors.
1967 Evinrude 18hp
1974 Evinrude 25hp
thanks.
seeing if they would be too big for my boat.
I have the 1971 Johnson 9.5hp and have a chance to do a trade with a guy who has a 1967 Evinrude 18hp (not sure if he is going to ask for money or not also).
If both are in good running condition with good compression, etc...
what are you guys opinions on the worth of each compared.
thanks
How do you take the plates off that are above the lower unit but below the cowl and powerhead. The green sides that case the motor in.
Is it a simple procedure or is there some sort of parts linked to this?
I am wanting to repaint these.
thanks
