    cleaned, switched, reset ignition components

71 Johnson 9.5 No matter what i set or changed with the coils and all the ignition components, there is a certain cylinder that isnt getting spark. Even if i switched the coil, or any of the other components to that side. all that is left is the wire itself right? I pulled the flywheel and...

minn kota edge 40 lb mount

Ok, I broke the little yoke guide that holds the shaft of the trolling motor when towing. I know where I can get the part, but its held in by a thick pin. About a half an inch thick. How do you get these pins out. Do you just drive them out? What is holding them in. I want to get the new...

got flywheel off, now a couple q's

1971 Johnson 9.5 Ok, I have had my first look at the magneto without a flywheel. Got the flywheel puller from napa on a lease. Pulled it off trying to investigate only getting spark to 1 wire. First its a bit greasy wet under there and I think this is due to me tilting the motor upside down...

1971 Johnson 9.5 no spark on 1 wire

My top wire isnt providing any spark. I know this is probably a newbie question, but what should I check first. Also, if something will have to be replaced, more than likely what would it be and is it something I could do? I have done everything else on this motor (carb rebuild, fuel pump...

Well I took my head off because I am replacing it, and when I took the cap off of my thermostat, there wasnt one in there. Just the cap and then an empty tube. What does this indicate and why would someone do that? so now that I only have the cap, do I need just the thermostat, gasket, and...

    1971 Johnson 9.5 - found existing problem

Ok I am only about 3 months into this motor and I remember the guy telling me when he gave it to me that it had a new head gasket. (cylinder head gasket). Well now I see that sometime in the past one of the spark plug holes had been stripped out and they had added liquid metal and actually...

    1971 Johnson 9.5 shift linkage

I noticed something that is a bit inconsistent on mine due to play in the shift linkage and knob. When this motor is in neutral or reverse, most of the time there is pin that lifts into place to limit the throttle. Is that correct? or is that only supposed to lift into place when in reverse...

    1968 chrysler 6.6

Just replaced the impeller, but motor isnt pumping water. I was wondering what on a water pump can go bad because there is nothing much to them? Is it a flaw in the housing, or wear in the housing? I checked the tube, and its lined up. It just wont spit water. Its an old motor that I dont...

Johnson 9.5 - reinstalling tiller arm

Ok I am at wits end because I dont want to pay money to someone to install this thing back on. I took off the tiller arm so I could get to the gas input to change the fuel line. With the arm in place I couldnt get a good angle to install a new fuel line there. So I took it off and now I can...

    cleaning inside the powerhead

I got an older motor and I was wondering what I could spray in the plug holes to clean inside the power head. When trying to start this motor (6 hp), it would try a couple of times and then not try at all. I pulled the plugs and there is wet gas but with some blackish oil. It looks like just...

When reassembling the power head, do you guys know which is the best order to do so? would it be 1. hook up throttle linkage, then bolt power head or bolt down power head, then try to hook the linkage up while already down? these little motors dont give much space.

    1971 Johnson 9.5 problem today

Took the motor out today to run it for the 2nd time since I rebuilt the carb. The last time I took it out, it ran fine. Idled fine and ran fine open. Today, not so much. What it would do is when I opened it up it would barely start to go...maybe for like 20 yards or so, then it sounded like...
