    Merc Vessel View Mobile

For MPIs their literature says 0M3000000 and above. Now it is a bit vague though because in another place it says 2004 and newer. I have a 2002 MPI and its 0M345...

    Proper Engine Oil Level

Thanks for that QBhoy. What manual is that out of?

    Proper Engine Oil Level

Good point Alldodge. I didn't check the mm. So assuming we have the correct dip stick tubes that still leaves the discrepancy between the capacity stated in the manual (5.5 qts) vs what I'm getting out (4 qts.). I could see the filter retaining some but not 1.5 qts.

    Proper Engine Oil Level

Yeah that's what I mean, something is amiss with the manual. Aside from the mistake you note with lengths C and A, the C length given is obviously not what you and I have. When I refill with 4 qts. it puts it right at the full mark.

    Proper Engine Oil Level

I have a 2002 5.0 MPI (0M345638) that I have owned since new and all I have ever gotten out of it is 4 qts draining the hose through the garboard. Even if it sits for two weeks with a hole knocked into the filter. My dipstick measures 35 1/4" from tip to the stop. I chased this issue a few...

    Prop boat to jet boat?

Agree on the outboard. If I could afford a switch I'd do it. Here soon, however, fuel tanks will be replaced by battery cells. It's coming quicker than we think. It seems this would further the demise of the inefficient jet drive. Amazing how quickly Volvo ditched Seven outboards focusing on...

    Prop boat to jet boat?

But I wonder if the inefficiency isn't offset by lower maintenance costs vs sterndrive. Have to admit I'm envious, no gimbal bearings, yearly drive pulls, shift cables, ujoints, bellows, power trim issues. They sure are selling a lot of them.

    2006 VIP Vegas

I've never looked one over closely but I suspect they were an average build for the day. I liked their designs for the most part. See if you can find out if they had gone to no wood construction by 2006.

    Thinking of getting salty

I assume your engine is raw water cooled? What about the trailer, tubular steel?

    Name this boat

Nice boat. Yours I mean. The old day cruiser is nothing but a shell if it's been sitting like that. And the shell would need work. Love the old water hot rods of old too. How fast does she run?

Removing remnants of elbow to manifold gasket on still attached manifold

Changing my elbow to manifold gaskets on my 2002 5.0 MPI (0M345638). I wasn't going to change the manifold to block gasket so the manifold is still attached. This is my first time doing this. This may be a dumb question but how careful do I need to be when scrapping off the remnants of the...

    Smarttabs

Nearly any planing boat can benefit from a trim system to one degree or another. My boat, a Bryant 214, didn't really suffer from performance issues but I desired lower planing speed, and some help with slow speed wander. I know the helm adjustable tabs are superior and I debated the...

    Tahoe boat question.

That make is a very entry level build targeted at first time buyers. That doesn't mean it's junk. Boat building standards are good today. But...be prepared to DIY some things. If it means changing out screws for bolts with a piece of wood backing under it, do it and you'll have a fine boat...

Also in your price range recommend looking at Starcraft. Nice affordable designs in deck boat style layouts with outboards.

    Stainless Steele or NO..

Are you currently propped right? Is your motor turning at or close to the top end of the RPM range? If not you need to re-prop anyway so yes go stainless. If no other reason for durability. It's not worth a high end Mercury prop but I'd look at Solas or Turning Point. Watch for their...
