A couple months ago I had a problem with the engine excessively smoking, mid and high rpm cut-out, and no power on hole shot. As per advice, fuel system rebuilt (injectors, pumps, etc), electrical system ck, and TPI replaced. Finally, problem replicated on dyno. ECU was the culprit, and has been replaced. Now! I'm continuing to deal with excessive smoke/fuel at idle and a bad hole shot, unless I rev it up and clear it out, prior to take-off. Any suggestions on cause and cure? Thanks...

possible problem with the bleed system. When does the problem seem the worst? When the engine has been idling for a while? on first startup after the engine has been sitting for a while? What happenends when you have a high speed run then bring the boat to a stop and then go back to high speed again, hows the hole shot then?

Problem is worse after idle. I can drop it off the trailer, idle to the no wake zone then jump on it, with minor hesitation. Great power once some RPM is built. Now, after a run, idle it for any time at all, major hesitation/dogging on hole shot. (unless rev'd up) After engine has cooled (on water) it's a 50/50 chance if will hesitate or not...

Re: '01 Merc 200 EFI Fuel/ Oil Problem

it does sound like a bleed system problem The bleed system is a series of small rubber hoses, fittings and check valves which recirulate puddled fuel inside the engine and moves it to areas where it can be reatomized and burnt.

A bad check valve or a pinched line would cause the engine to build up a excess of puddled fuel. Then during a hole shot the large volume of air that gets sucked into the engine will pick up this puddled fuel and the engine would react similar to you hitting the enrichner at the same time you jump on the gas.

I don't have a diagram to show you where all the lines go or where the check valves are, So maybe someone else can help in this department?

hope this helps

Ckd what I could, without specific diagrams. Found nothing to indicate a stuck check valve or collapsed hoses. Any other suggestions?

From you description of the problem really sounds like a bleed system problem. Without knowing where there should be check valves and what fittings are open it is going to be near impossible to trouble shoot.
Got to get your hands on that diagram.

sorry im not more help
