05 90hp warning alarm problem

HElP???? I just got tracker pontoon with this motor, I installed new impeller and started engine to check. noticed alarm on initial key turn, then alarm went off. (normal function) Today i was thinking in transfering this motor to another boat and pulled the connection apart at the engine, (screw connection) and the connection under the dash (12 pin plasctic) connected both again and decided not to remove the engine. took the boat to the water and when i cycle on key the alarn didnt sound. I tried MANY times and wouldnt give test sound. a freind with me says he hears the alarm continually making a very high pitch but very low sound. (i cant hear anything) i have checked both connections and even tried a different alarm from another boat. NOTHING!! any help??

Well I'd say it has to be something you did being how it was working correctly previously. Recheck the wiring and if you have a schematic diagram see how that alarm is connected. If the alarm is making a high pitch sound now, it could be another wire that supplies the voltage to the alarm and not from the sensor... A change in the alarm sound indicates a change in the supply voltage/current...

When you tugged on the connectors you may have also tugged on the wires so the connector is not making good contact. On Molex style connectors it is possible one of the pins is partially pushed out of the connector body. Separate the connector and look at the pins. It should be obvious if one is pushed out of position.

For what it's worth, the alarm device gets it's power from the wiring harness to the remote. A failure is a ground on the other side of the alarm device from whatever is causing it. The color of the wire in my fairly recent engine/control setup is black with a yellow stripe.

That wire is in the 7 pin engine connection to remote cable harness inside the engine, pin 1 which, when looking into the pins of the remote cable with pins 1 and 7 in the 4:30 and 7:30 positions, is the pin at the 4:30 position.

You can't test the alarm with that connector ajar as power to the remote and thus to the alarm is removed also when the connection is open.

thanks, the power from the switch is purple and has voltage. out is brown/blue stripe. when i test to ground beyond the connection i unhooked alarm sounds loudly. engine is 06 90hp 4 stroke with screw connection at engine. i cant locate the wire beyond that connection to test. i will try at the engine connection to the 7 pin as you suggest.

My engine is an '02 2 stroke 90. The current Quicksilver Commander 2000 is a couple years old and replaces one 10 years old. Merc tries to keep things alike to make controls adaptable to most engines. On my things, purple is hot also meaning that it's not hot till you turn the key on....differentiates it from the red battery straight hot wiring.....input to the ign switch.

How about tan/light blue stripe for alarm (ground to function). That's on pin 3.

I owe you an apology. I was thinking engine kill and you are after OT/Oil alarm. Pin 3 will be at the 3 o'clock position.

Sounds like you may have damaged either connector. Probably inside the connector where the wires join either the male pin or female receptor. See if any wires are moving as they go into the connector. You can also check continuity through the cable and connectors with a multimeter but you'll need a harness wiring diagram first. Also check your grounds at each end.

None of my business sir, but not a good idea. I had a stat stick closed on a '75 70 hp OMC at WOT. Engine had no bypass valve for high speed operation and no alarm. Engine locked up tight at about 40 mph and the boat came to a screeching halt....considering a boat not a car. Cost me a $1000 overhaul and I did everything but the machine/assy work on the powerhead.
