Re: 115 johnson v4... problems

Pertaining to the plug that is not firing......

There are orange wires leading from those coils to the powerpack. Switch those wires (reverse their position) momentarily.

With the spark plugs removed, crank the engine over with the ignition key. If the coil that didn't fire previously now does fire, then obviously the coil is okay.

Remember to switch those orange wires back to where they belong.

That vertical throttle lever spring is no doubt okay. the tightness would be due to either a tight timer base assembly under the flywheel, or the vertical throttle lever is jamming for some reason.

Let us know what you find.

looks like it's raining pretty hard so i won't get a chance to fiddle with the electronics just yet, but is it possible for the powerpack to only discharge to one coil? or is it two seperate capacitators per coil?

Yes, it's possible for a powerpack to fire only one coil. Switching the powerpacks would confirm or eliminate that possibility.

If the problem follows the pack, in all probability the pack is faulty.

Re: 115 johnson v4... problems

I finally got the time and the B@LL$ to go out in the cold and see whats wrong. I swapped the powerpacks and the problem persists but now on the other side so apparently it is the power pack that has gone out

My question is, what can cause the powerpack to go out? and the entire powerpack is not out but only to one spark plug
I don't want to get another one only to have it go out on me.
I just ordered off of iboats and am waiting for it to come in.

One other housekeeping item that you may want to deal with is that your picture shows several wires clamped near your spark plug wires.

It is considerably better to keep all other wires as far away from the spark plugs and spark plug wires as practical.
