Re: 14' Sea Nymph Oh Yeah! Now 1971 LUND 14-S

Thanks for the tips doods...

After getting two coats of spar urethane on both sides of all my wood, I finally started priming for paint after scuffing with 220 grit, and wipe-down with wax-grease remover. It's nice to see some color on things. Grey is a color right? I'm also applying stripper on rivets and seams in preparation for Gluvit. The boat is in such wonderful condition I doubt if anything leaks, but I'm doing it as precautionary measure. Hopefully I can get the Gluvit down today, and the backsides of all the wood primed. I'm planning on on additional coat of primer on the topside, then I can start rolling on topcoat!

Thanks bonz my Wisconsin brethren! It's a trade off for sure... My truck is out in the all familiar to you cold weather... In order to do work on that side I always have to mop a gallon of melted salty road grime the night before, and run the fan till dry... But yes I'm fortunate and at least have some space with heat... Modine hot dawg is the best thing I ever installed in my garage!

I always think I'll get more accomplished with the time I have... No Gluvit, or primer on the back sides of wood... Still a good weekend! I also needed to spend some time with Jackson so it's all good! He's such a good dog... I'm super blessed!

Still some clean-up with wire brush and wipe down... But most of the seams I intend to apply Gluvit are clean and ready.

I can see a dry bilge in your future. Which I see as one of the biggest goals in boat restoration.

Re: 14' Sea Nymph Oh Yeah! Now 1971 LUND 14-S

Hey Gang,

Decided to get a coat of primer on the back sides of all the wood tonight...

I've been in deep contemplation regarding my transom... Seeing so much rotted wood on this forum... Past experience with a glasser I gave up on... :sorry: Anyhoo.... I've been looking through the motor mount holes... tapping with a soft mallet, thinking how great of a original non molested boat this is... Would it be possible????? Could the wood in my transom be okay after 42+ years??????? Will I be okay with just leaving it alone after all the work I'm doing? Hell NO! I just had to dismantle and have a look see... I'm blown away! I know this boat has never been tampered with. Factory paint over rivets, etc... etc... So I pull the wood out and it's bone dry! A touch of some mold from a damp day or two... Slight water stain where motor bolts run through... That's it doooods! I can tell it's original cause it even has factory pencil markings S-14 20 . The plywood is two sheets bonded together with glue, and glued wooden pegs instead of screws holding it together... Old school for sure! Since I have it out, I plan to remove the rivet pieces embedded in the wood and give it a few coats of spar and paint... It should then last longer than me.....

Nice, you should probably make a new transom & send the original back to Lund for their hall of fame wall :)

45yrs is probably long enough, it's earned a rest...... :watermelon:

Looks great, congrats on the 1 in a million transoms on iboats. See, they aren't all neglected derelicts. Please don't tell my fleet.

That is definitely amazing and one for the books...
You should send an e-mail to the folks at Lund boats, along with those pics...but I would do that after you re-install it because like JBC mentioned, they might ask for you to send it back to them for a hall of fame wall...:D

If iBoats had a board game....

"BACKYARD BOAT BUILDER"

...you would have just drawn a "Transom is good! Skip ahead two spaces!" card.

bonus points!!!!!!! So is this a result of it being a Lund or is it the care it's had over the years?

Pretty cool eh'

I'm not sure this is a Lund thing... It's obvious the PO was meticulous with his belongings. I bought the boat from his nephew who inherited it after his uncle passed... His name was Mull Rooney as it was painted on the trailer... I'm thinking about naming the boat after him.... " Mulrooney " The 20 hp Mercury looks new... I'll post some pics when I have a chance...

Lund boats no doubt have a great reputation, but, they'll rot out just like any other. Bear, you scored a well cared for, and loved boat, nice:encouragement:
