I have just purchased a boat with a 2002 Suzuki 140 Four Stroke. Can anyone tell me where the drain plug is for the engine oil and what type of oil? I am working on a manual but am having a problem finding it to. Thanks !

I have twin 2003 140's and my drainplug is below the cover, just above the water line . You'll see a silver hex head nut, that's it. You do not need to remove the cowling to get at it. BUT do yourself a favor and get a new plug. On mine the hex heads were very small and easy to strip, believe me, I know!! Last year they came out with a plug with a much larger hex and a much heavier head. You will not strip these. The oil filter is under the cowling and to get at it you must remove one side. Be careful when you put the cowling back as a fuel line runs right along side it and it is easy to pinch. You won't know you did it until the engine cuts out. That's another story!!!!

Jprasisto!

I appreciate your direction. I figured that was what that plug was but thought it was strange to be so low on the shaft. You have been a huge help. The other comment about sucking it out is still running around in my head for right now. Some people are always trying to skate up hill. How about the type of oil? I understand that 10W 40 oil is good for that motor but does it need to be some type of Marine grade or can I use regular Penzoil?

Re: 140 four stroke

The last couple of years I have used the oil marketed for SUV's/ trucks/off-road. I don't know if it actually makes a difference! 5.5 qts of 10w-40 and you are good to go. Careful with the oil filter though, it makes a mess! I usually wrap a rag all around the underside of it and cover as much of the engine as possible because it does leak a lot when unscrewing it.

geees must be a pretty crappy design if the oil filter does not drain when the oil is drained, or is it mounted "upwards" or something??
