I am considering purchasing this motor used from a dealer. What besides the compression and lower unit should I inspect before buying it? Thanks for your responses.

No one has an opinion on this motor? I did not know the fast strike came in a 25 inch shaft. Anyone, anyone, Bueller.

Ok the model # is J175EXEOM. The motor is an ocean runner. It looks to be in great shape. Compression is between 88-100 on all cylinders. Looking for opinions in general.

Re: 175 Johnson Fast Strike

OMC started the "saltwater series" type of outboard back in '93 and yours is a '95, so you have the extra corrosion protection on it.

They are good outboards, just be sure to use Champion QL78YC plugs only, gapped at .030", and make sure the thermostats are clean and operational. Prop the engine to run close to 5500 rpm with an average load. That 60 degree block has a good reputation for reliability. If it hasn't been serviced recently, make sure to put a new water pump kit in it, #5001595.

Like any used purchase, have it inspected by a QUALIFIED tech.

I am replacing a 1987 johnson 200 HP. What can I expect vs the two? Will the wiring harness be the same? THanks
