Good to see the engine running. Great job on the resto and sorry to hear about the about the carb teardown. By the time you are finished that engine will be factory fresh. I am soley tempted to send my engines to you for resto so I can drink beer and accept the credit for all the hard work:D

Yea, good idea on the carb rebuild. The cork floats will invite trouble when they get old. I seriously doubt you'll have any issues with that carb, once you rebuild it. The newer float is the best investment on the carb rebuild. What Cchinewalker said is right on the money. That motor has needles in the crank and rods, but not in the wrist pins. I believe that was changed, just a couple years later.
The lower unit should come apart easy on yours, since it hasn't seen much use. Just remove the lower shift rod coupler bolt (completely) which you'll find behind that little obround plate on the side of the exhaust housing and remove the 5 bolts that secure the lower unit. Then you can wiggle it free as you apply a slight downward pressure. One thing I like about youre model, it has the heftier 5 bolt lower unit, which also was used on the 18's. They held up a lot better, than the newer design, that came out in '58. Just for future reference, that lower unit was used on the 10's, from 1949 - to 1957. However, you can use the lower units from the 18, 20 and 25hp all the way up to 1976.
