model # 7522, 7.5 Evinrude.
Just resealed the lower. When I tried to turn it by hand with the driveshaft, it will bind up for about 1/2 turn, then free up, then bind, you get the idea.
I have a factory manual, doesn't really address this issue, I searched the forums, didn't find anything. I also took it apart again, took the gears out and tried to turn it. Same thing, it would appear to be the pinion shaft. The water pump was not installed . Any ideas? I don't remember it doing this before. Is it time for a new lower?
Thanks.

I want to thank Chinewalker for all his help. I couldn't have done it without him......

Any luck yet? Is it exactly 1/2 turn or does it progress a bit with each turn? That would suggest the forward or reverse gear was binding.

on Chinewalker's advice, I pried the upper bushing/seal carrier off, previous owner had apparently tried to beat the bushing out and mangled it...shaft would bind in it. now I just need a new one. thanks for asking though.
