I don't know about the swap & stealth 850, but if the engine runs, yep, plus a good trailer (maybe) & some bits to sell.....

Re: 1961 Custom Craft Sea Ray Rebuild

I'd have to swap the powerhead to run the 850 on my boat as I need a short shaft, but the motor has to be worth what they are asking. Doubtful that I would actually do the swap but it is possible. Just an upgrade from 62 CID to 66 CID really, not that much.. Plus the trailer which I could use ( if it's good ), controls and windows to sell.. I would only make the purchase if the trailer was good

I looked again at my trailer, and the bent channel does not support the suspension, only one of the rollers and the fender, so I could buy some 4x3 rectangle tubing, cut the bottom half at 2 1/4" to match the original channel, cut it to the right length and then have a machine shop ( I don't have a mill ) cut the slots and bolt holes into it to make a new cross piece. Still would need some tweaking to the right side trailing arm ( bent a bit ) but would then be mostly right. Problem is, the trailer had to have gotten hit pretty hard to bend that, so I don't know what else is out of wack.

I got the urge to tear the trailer apart. Pulled the axle and the bent channel off the main frame, so I will see how much is involved in fabricating a new channel section.. May still get the other boat and flip the OB/ trailer for extra money. Boat fund is running low right now, altho I can keep chugging along for quite a while with the supplies I have on hand

Figured out the trailer is a 1956 Mastercraft Bannerline 750 and I know now why the frame was twisted. My grandfather chained one side of the axle to the cross beam to lower the suspension ( sadly, I think that's what the chains are for, they are on both sides ), and that put torque thru that channel. I popped it off, and cut the chain and it went right back in shape.. New trailer not needed now, tho I'm still eyeballing that boat because of the 850 and parts I could flip

Anyone have an idea on what tachometer I can use? I want an old Airguide to match the speedometer. Also thinking on using a GPS conversion kit for the speedo

Got a small amount of work done today.. The section of channel on the trailer frame that I thought was bent, got painted today. Using the same color as the boat will be which was matched with a Valspar color card to the original seats and I found a slight reminant of the color under the rubrail. Fenders will be white, and I will have Custom Craft decals made for the backs of the fenders. Original colors before my grandfather painted the trailer blue were orange ( everything except tilt bed ) and green for the tilt bed, kind of an odd combo. Using Ace Ruststop ( rustoleum ) which they can tint to any color. My grandfather had my dad paint the boat blue in the early 1990's so I'm taking it back to original.. Rest of trailer will likely wait until the transom and stringers are done. Transom was fully cured as of 6:00 PM tonight

How much can the transom crack be seperated and still be able to be 'fair? I wasted quite a bit of resin and fabric today ( 1 gallon, 2-3 yards between CSM and 1708 ). Put packing tape on the back side, had the transom actually 'in' with CSM on transom wood and the skin, and the packing tape loosened and the gap opened up. removed before it cured, tried again and with 1708 and not doing the transom at the same time, and the packing tape released, so I removed before it cured Finally I put down 3 layers of duct tape and it actually came out close, like 1/8", so I used about a 12" square of CSM in 1 layer, layed it out and just left it be. I still have about 1/8". Is 1/8" going to be close enough that I can use PB and fair it out on the outside?
