I just bought a sea star boat with a 1965 RXEL 13 (thanks to those on this forum who helped me ID the motor). The fuel pump was not working, I replaced it today,a nd it is now pumping fuel, but the engine still wont start.
If I squirt gas into the carb it will fire up instantly, but dies once you stop giving it fuel directly into the carb. I took the line off from the pump to the carb, and tried blowing air into it, nothing. Sprayed a little carb cleaner into it, no help.
My theory is that the float is stuck and not allowing suel into the carb bowl. Any ideas as to wether r not I am on the right track? I dont want to take the carb apart, but was wondering if I could take the bowl off without screwing things up, or am I better off taking it over to the local boat shop and letting them work on it at this point.
