Greetings, this is my first post on the forum.
Anyways, I just picked up what I think turned out to be an awesome deal!
I bought a 1967 Evinrude Fisherman 6hp on craigslist for $50 with 3 gas tanks!!
The guy I bought it from said he hadnt run it in years, and it just sat in his garage.
I got it home, cleaned it up a bit, poured some fresh fuel/oil in the tank and on the third pull it fired up and held a steady idle...
Anyways, my main questions are what should I do to the engine aside from a lower unit oil change which I plan on doing tomorrow? I thought it would need some work to get running since it sat for so long, but it honestly seems to be running perfect.
What is a good setting to place the low speed idle micture knob on?
I also was wondering if this engine is supposed to have a water pump check hole that shows the pump is pumping?
I did notice some water was spraying/sputtering out of the exhaust hole on the shaft... is that a good indication that the water pump/cooling system is functioning?
Also is this a difficult engine to do a water pump install on just in case I decide to throw in a new impeller?
This is my first evinrude outboard, and I am very excited to get my raft fixed up and get out on the water!
thanks,
CHRISTIAN
