You should shorten the boat and leave the trailer alone.

Yeah, ask my Admiral, I'm all about the non-Hoopdi lifestyle

Happy to help......

Are those mini inlaid keel rollers IN the main tube? Never noticed that before, cool

ROTFLMAO that's funny. Seeing how I sold the 12' Sea Scamp which was completely done to get a 2' longer boat, that's funny. You are a funny man 64, oh so funny.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love trailer work? Cause I love it.

Hey JB, those are rollers in the middle of the tube. Way cool. This trailer is light and strong. I thought about just copying the design, building one to fit the 14' and then selling this one. Simple, inexpensive, light, some dude in the 50's had it going on at Tee-nee. The axle design is pretty neat too. I'll snap a pic of it. Looks like a 40's Ford design.

New transoms.

The oscillating spindle sander from Harbor Freight is awesome. It made short work of any edge sanding.

Next is epoxy, I got a half gallon in from US Composites. Couple of 5 degrees warmer and I could do it in the garage.

Speedy Metals opened up near my house. They cut metal to whatever size you need. Large selection and reasonable prices. I'll be getting some tubing for the trailer there. Hopefully I can finish extending it this weekend.

Good luck with your projects.

Re: 1967 Sea Nymph, 14'

Rain, snow high winds, torrential downpours. This weather is not good, it snowed Friday night here. Well I finally went back to working on the boat. I worked some Saturday and all day Sunday. Got a bit accomplished.

Trailer is officially 3' longer!

Here I scabbed some steel on the outside of the tube so it would just slip inside the current tube.

Then I slipped a 3" square tube over the inner tube and bolted it all in place. Primered it too. This summer it'll get painted Sun burst yellow. I'll redo the whole trailer and pretty it up.

A new trailer jack from HF, $20.00.

I also removed the end caps. Previous owner used all steel fasteners. It was a hoot to get them out. Grinder and drill and punch until my ears rang. Hey it's over now. Zach and I loaded the boat ourselves, just winched it on the trailer. Nah it didn't tear up the wet lawn...a lot. Don't tell SWMBO.

As soon as it gets into the 50's I'll epoxy. It was 45 degrees today. This needs to be done by next Sunday, whether the weather co-operates or not

Well it was 37 degrees out this morning. It's warmed to 55 by 10:30 so it's epoxy time. I've got one coat on all edges and one face. Both inner and outer pieces. Looks to be a nice day. Catch and release for smallmouth opens today on St. Clair. Bummer I'm not out there.

Happy Saturday all.

BD - Good job on the extend. Is that a new kind of coupler? :) Finish her up, there are smallies in St Clair calling your name. And calling Zach too. You two have to be :fish2: soon.

Hey GA the extension is just a tube bolted on. It doesn't look stock but it looks sturdy. Once it's painted it won't look half bad. Check it off the list and on to the next item.

Second coat of epoxy is down. All edges and one face. The bottom is still plain wood. Tomorrow two coats on it.

Question;
I'm going to paint over the epoxy. Any special prep for this? Primer I suppose, but just plain Rusto primer? It feels good to not have snow in the old outdoor workshop.

Hope all is good with everyone's project.

Best looking example of upcycling plastic I've seen all day:

I'm not sure that a Folger's coffee 'can' is a DOT approved trailer coupler though :watermelon:

Thanks Magnum will follow that recipe. Low 50's and rain today, yea. Get'n-nothing done right now.

JB that Folgers plastic tub will save my knee bone.

Bwana Don, just curious how things are going on your boat. I found this thread on a Google search. I just purchased the same boat over the weekend and have some work to do as well. I see you replaced the transom which mine will need as well. Right now I have an 8 horse Nissan I put on it but I'm thinking I'd like to upgrade to a 25 this summer. What did you end up with?

Sheesh it's not dead, lol. Just moving a little slow. I pulled out the boat and started stripping it again. Snow just melted a couple of weeks ago. A seriously harsh winter. 30" of ice on Lake St. Clair.

This boat will be finished in a bit. A 10 horse 55 Johnson will go on it, then an 18 hp if I can find one cheap. Finishing projects this year, this boat, the 10 hp Johnson, the 5.5 hp johnson and then the Offshore.

Ok guys. We've been working on the boat.

Progress:
1) Finished stripping it (95% paint removal) what an arduous task!!! Had to strip bare due to some peeling paint.
2) Gluvit inside of boat.
3) Shot one coat of rattle can primer on the bottom side as she was turtled. I used Rusto self etching primer. Primer and etching in a single can.

Will roll out the aluminum color on the bottom soon. Then the top third will be regal red. Rusto of course. The inside will be, I dunno, grey seafoam, We'll see, I'm leaning towards grey.

Zach is one test away from his brown belt in Karate. He's been stalled on his last stripe for 10 weeks and it's driving me mad. He needs to present 10 review katas and he's in. He won't do it though. Stalled at advanced red belt for now.

Pics in process.
