Is that an old Starcraft? Good luck with it. I currently have a 1960 Larson Playboy Runabout that I am reconfiguring to be a waterfowling boat.

I saw the beginning phot about an hour ago and then started the reading. WOW! What a fantastic job you are doing. I am a huge fan of Starcraft and have had three, my biggest being a 1993 Sportfisherman....loved it. Can't wait to see the end product, that will be quite some boat. Great job, anxiously awaiting the next round of detail and pics.

Good grief. For a boat the size of yours that is huge. Did it come with that thru hull fitting? I'd be filling a bucket and hooking up a battery just to see that thing work.

Once its hooked up, ill hook it up to a bat show a vid of it. This thing is water hydrant. I had to order the fitting seperately LM. I didnt put attention to the size much, but thats what the pump asks for.

That's not a bilge pump, it's a sump pump....that's bigger than the one in my basement! LOL

BTW...very nice work. I have been following for a long time.....you patience is unreal.

Carry on!

Hehe, thanks. U know the pic on ebay looked smaller, didnt know it was this big. I feel silly now.

On your bilge pump there...

Does that have the 305 or the bigger 350 V8 in it? With regular oil changes and maintenance it should give you years of service.

Looking forward to the video of that monster in action:D

Alzo you are always the innovator, an electric jet drive as a backup power solution. That has to be the biggest pump I have ever seen. Not to be outdone I must get one for mine. My cruiser has two but it will be a dock boat. I really dont want it to go down when I am gone. My biggest worry also. Any pics of those painted parts? You patients and diligence With this project is inspirational.

Probably a stupid question but would that huge pump possibly be less effective at pumping out small amounts of water than a smaller pump would? Like do you maybe need like 15 gallons of water in your bilge to prime that thing?

Azlo, I think that you accidentally ordered a pump for the raw water washdown kit.:D

Keep it for that use with some modifications maybe, and then get a 1000 for the bilge?

That thing could fill a livewell pretty fast too I bet:)

Good luck with the motor, I was really bummed out for ya when I heard the bad news.

I would like to take the time to thank everybody for making fun of my pump.
Yes its a monster, I should of known better. But we learn from our Mistakes. In this case I still installed it. But I ran in to a problem As you can see I cant sit the pump straight cause its to tall. So,,,,, had to put it side ways.

MAH007811.jpg

As I said this is for when the boat is sinking from an extreme leak. I will have a 1000gpm pump right beside for the usual small to medium leaks. Had to mount the flywheel cover to make sure it would clear it. SO how to strap this pump? Glad you ask. I had plenty of aluminum flat bar. So went ahead modified this conjucture.

MAH007821.jpg

Drilled the holes to attatch the strap to the bottom of the transom and a rib.

MAH007831.jpg

On the rib i used a rivet nut. U guys remember my floor braces, well this is the tool I used.

MAH007836.jpg

Drilled a hole on the rib & used the tool to install apermanent nut on the rib. Sweet.

MAH007832.jpg

This is how the nut looks like afterwards.

MAH007851.jpg

Large hole eh. the bottom hole is the original bilge hole wich I will install later.

MAH007852.jpg

Set and ready for the hose. Wich I dint have a chance to install But will soon.

Nice work and pics Az. Thanks for the update - You'll need a dedicated deep cycle battery to run that lil' sucker! :)

Hi Guys:

Forgive me Azlo, but I'm fairly sure that your new mega-pump won't work while on it's side unless it's completely submerged and then as soon as it clears the water it starts sucking air. In other words, it will stop sucking at about 2.5 - 3 inches. That's still a lot of water! The grill on the bottom of the pump has to be immersed for it to empty the boat. Please let me know.

Thats the plan my kilowats. Severe leakage or sinkage is what it will be used for. Yes it will have to be submerged for it to work. Not intended for regular use. An insurance policy if u will.
If u notice here, water would have to be almost to the bottom of the stringers for the pump to work. Thats an emergency.

I will post a vid of it working. I coudnt find another way to install it. Plus I cant send it back so I have to use it, no matter what. For what it cost me I better.

Dude, no problem! What are iboats friends for?

Hey here is one quick thought...

Is that pump one that can have a hose hooked to the bottom? Like, take off the the strainer and install a hose running down into the bilge and within say 1/4" of the hull? Maybe mount the pump to the transom or something?

Just thinking out loud buddy. I know you have it mounted in there already but it needs to come out and be painted blue anyway, right?:D:D

Hey man I was joking a little but dont think my century will not have one of those to. I wasn't joking about being afraid she might go down while I am not there. We have had houseboats sink as well as cruisers, dont want mine to be one of them. If that big monster gets you to the bank one day who will laugh then? My 19 foot Bayliner has two pumps, only needs one but heck it dont cost much compared to recovery fees.

Unfortunatly there isnt enough lip to clamp a hose to it, unless I can plastic weld or epoxy a longer lip. Hmmmm Now u got me thinking jasoutside, thats a good idea!!!
