All,
Just got back from the Pueblo Reservoir. First time out in 2 years...boat ran good, but i noticed a LOT of water in the engine compartment....its dripping from the left side (the non-battery side). Its also not spitting out the water from the hole in the stern drive...like it used to. I decided to pull the boat out of the water rather than risk anything else going wrong. What can I look for as far as leaks etc? I did tighter the water release and the prop was all the way lowered into the water. Thank you and I appreciate any ideas.

Please have a read of this thread -> http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=220416
and use port and starboard as references... Left and right are meaningless on a boat...

Chris....

BTW, Welcome to iBoats...

Its on the port side....leaking water from a place I cant see yet. Its also not shooting water from the hole in the stern drive....could this be an impeller problem?

What year and model (and serial number if you have them) of the engine, and drive.... I could give you all sorts of answers, but without knowing what equipment you're asking about, it's only a pure guess.... Did you read the thread I directed you to?

looking back in there with a mirror the best bet. I have an old truck mirror in my tool box - the best.

could be a frost plug put of the motor, or could be an exhaust rubber coupling, or about a dozen other things

it's not the impeller causing water in the bilge though. However, if you are unsure of the condition of the impeller - change it.

I did see a grey colored metal freeze plug on the floorboard in the engine compartment...do I have to have it redone if its out?

you said you could provide all kinds of answers...if I provided the make/model etc. Do you have any links or info that I can use please? or was that a rhetorical statement so I could provide the make/model etc.

Go with what Howard said first. If you do have a freeze plug out, it'll have to be fixed first. I'm not sure how to do that - I've never had to.

This Thread has all kinds of Stringer Information, and at the bottom is a link to a downloadable manual. You'll want to get that mug. The V6 is a Buick/Jeep based V6, so you might be able to find some details about the freeze plug out based on that.

Are you seeing where the water is coming out of the block? You said "left side" in the first post, but I can't tell if you mean you see water coming out of the block. I would think with a freeze plug out, you'd see water flowing outta' block while running. If you put the plug in the boat, tilt the trailer nose way up and run a hose into the boat do you see any water leaking out the back? You may want to rule out a leaky boot, or where that crazy shift cable runs through the intermediate housing or what-have-you early on too.

Thank you very much for the link and comments! I do appreciate that. You have an old boat like mine..you know how they can be. :)

From what I saw, on the port side..under the white manifolds (they look like exhaust manifolds...but not sure) . Seems like the water was trickling out from ...guessing here the top of the block possibly where the heads meet the block. Im taking a mirror out tonight and checking for sure...
I bought a huge trash can so I can put the stern in the water...but it didnt quite fit right...and I was unable to test.
Also, the freeze plug seems like it would be physically lower on the block towards the oil pan...and its leaking higher than that...but I know I saw a gray freeze plug on the floorboard when I was cleaning it all out.

Thank you.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... There's more than 1 core plug, 'n in more than 1 location,...

How big is the 1 ya found,..??

It sounds like yer gonna have to probably pull the motor to replace it,...

How's the oil level in the motor, 'n the color of the oil,..??

Core plugs don't Just fall out,... They're pushed out by Ice, from failed winterizations...

I'm guessin' yer bad news is gonna get worse,....

Btw,... a digital camera helps in these situations...

Well this was a good learning experience. Thank you all that assisted! Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure. It only blew the port side plugs because I didnt know there was a petcock on both sides. I only winterized the starboard side. Now I know better. Going to give it another try tomm at the lake.
Thanks again!
