Yeah dozer, after getting some prices on pleated vinyl I decided to persue other avenues. This was the cheapest alternative and should last me a few years before I really tear into the boat to redo the floors and work on the bow area. This will do for now. I finished up the other side this morning. Even with glue and stretching the heck out of the vinyl the curved areas on the sliding doors didn't come out perfect. That was the hardest part but I can live withthe results.

bunker, sometimes gentle heat shrinks wrinkles like you have. A hair dryer not a heat gun. It still looks great.

Well everyone, I can finally close the book on paint. I finished masking got her primed and painted today. It came out pretty good considering I shot it myself. I primed where I sanded down to aluminum on top of the gunwales and scuffed the rest of the interior paint. I deciced at the last minute to do the splashwell which I was planning on rhino lining. But since I had the booth I figured I might as well do it. I sealed up the splashwell with automotive seam sealer. I will keep you posted on how that turns out. Well here she is...

That boat keeps looking better and better. And I know I said the trailer had some good points, but at the time I thought it was going to get a coat of paint too.
The trailer and the hull will be painted white. The hull might get a blue stripe on top.
It would make it look a lot better, but a donor boat might be cheaper if you'd rather.

I hear you guys about the trailer. I would like to get it painted by the spring, which is rapidly approaching, but it doesn't just need paint. So the plan is to keep an eye out for a suitable trailer, or start tearing into this one, whichever comes first. My trailer doesn't need much, but it could use new spring bushings, which are cheap, and I would like to mount a new winch post too, again pretty reasonable. The most expensive and time consuming project will actually be prepping and painting the thing.

By the way, I had my Mercontrol completely rewired with new ignition switch and battery cable. I am waiting for it to arrive from Illinois so I can reinstall it and button up all my wiring. I guess you could say I am more focused on the boat than the trailer...

No one sees the trailer when you're on the water, bunk. As long as it's safe, fix it up when you get the time. And if it turns as nice as the SS - cat's pajamas!

I figured you had a plan. I guess maybe I'm just a bit envious of your work on your boat. My paint job is no where near that good, and you did a great job making an open bow. Interior looks real good too.

The weather has been too warm and I couldn't take it anymore. I re-installed the Mercontrol, filled her full of fuel, gave her a bath and took her home to light the fire! She fired right up. The remote was rebuilt and rewired with new igntion switch and battery cables. The fuel cell was secured and plumbed with new lines and fuel/water seperator. I still have to reinstall the seats...but other than that, she is ready to go!

Re: 1973 Super Sport...I bought it!

I forgot to post one of the fuel set up.
IMG_0488.jpg

I also got the camper woke from hibernation. I still need to check the bearing and tire pressure but she is looking like she survived our short winter as well.
IMG_0490.jpg

I also covered the consoles with some extra carpet I had. It is a much better alternative to the floor mats that resided there before...and just as easy to replace.
IMG_0477.jpg

and one more for good measure just because I am too damn excited to get back on the water. I need to get some final adjustments on the shift cable and carbs, but I am shooting to put her back in the water in the next few weeks. The ski pylon is the next project.

Re: 1973 Super Sport...I bought it!

i guess i shouldn't mention that it hit 70 here this weekend, then? Dozer, NM is neat in that it has lakes at all elevations, from Elephant Butte at about 4200' (too hot in summer but still fishable in winter for the hardy) to Navajo Lake at 7000' (ideal to escape the heat). we actually haven't had ENOUGH snow n ice here to generate decent snowmelt and i fear the fire season this summer.............

Careful what you wish for there. We had a real open winter here. Some snow in Hit fairly hard first part of Nov., then nothing til last couple weeks. First day off in 3 weeks (I plow county roads). It's sticking above about 3000 feet, but below, we've had 8 or 9 inches turning to rain and melting, and then 8 or 9 inches about 2 days after the last snow. Above 5000 got 6 feet just last week, and 3 feet overnight one night. I was worried about fires and fishing before this came. Been a weird winter. Gotten straighten out so I can get back to working on my jet.

It has been one real strange winter here as well, 6 weeks ago we had no snow and plus 10c then cold and snow and now we are back in the warm up. Go Figure.

Re: 1973 Super Sport...I bought it!

My pylon came in. I removed the padded board and installed a really nice piece of Brazillian Redwood...that stuff is dense. I installed the pylon to the wood and reinforced it underneath. I still have two more holes on each side near the gunwales for more support. I also have to drill the holes through the transom for the supports. I wish I could make my holes farther down my the splashwelll drains but the angle of the supports would be too narrow so I will have to drill higher up where the splashwell meets the transom and gunwales. It looks good...we will have wait and see if I rip it right off the boat!

Bunker, redwood looks terrific!!! Love the ski pole... if you think it is too high, then just cut the pole shorter. My father and I did just that to his 25 years ago, cause I bent the pins that the bracing attached to on the first run. Worked fine after that.

Really like the setup though!!
