1975 Mako I/O CC repower

I,ve owned this boat about 4 years. Original power was a 225 hp omc stringer. Spent some time and $$$ trying to make that work ( against some good advice). After stripping a drive shaft two years a go, I decided to
BITE the bullet.

What I started with.

Outdrive/t shield removed

Removed the fuel tank, inspected coal tar epoxied, replaced, refoamed. New vent and fill hoses were installed.

The tank hatch was recored and reinstalled

Then I had to close in the transom hole to accept new power. The new core is 3 sheets 1/2 AC.
West system epoxy was used for all bonding.

The outer core was then tapered back 3 + in. to lay up the outer skin

Before installing the core I cut grooves in the old core for the cabosil/resin to key into.

Then the usual fair/sand/ fair/ sand

Primmed

The bilge was cleaned and two coats of marime epoxy paint applied.

The new package arrives........VP 5.0 MPI/SX

The Cutout is then made

I made a jig to help keep the through hole straight.

The new core.

The original stringers were about 2 in. short, I fabbed these mounts out of 1/4 SS plate.

The engine is then lowered into the hole for a test fit. The mounts placed, drilled. I made another jig to keep the holes through the stringer straight.

Then after about 8 adjustments with the alignment tool the outdrive was installed.

This package was purchased complete, throttle, steering, guages, wiring harness, The console was reworked for the new GOODIES.

This was the fun part.....she fired right up.

SPLASH DAY

After fishing a couple spots and logging over 2 hours I could open her up.....managed 43= mph on the first run.

Since the initial run I have logged over 20 hrs and had her up to 48.5 MPH. She cruises at 3400 rpm's and 32 mph.

I've still got alot of work to do, finish console, remove bottom paint, etc,etc.

Thanks guys,

Its alot of fun, but ya'll know that...lol.

As far as the dropping the coin...........NO DOUGHT. I plan on fishing
quite a long ways offshore and there's enough that can go wrong with ANY
package, just FEELS better with new goodies.

Its all relative I've got about 1/3 in her, compared to what a rig this size would cost new.

Insatlled a new console

What I started with

Picked up this console from a fellow mako owner in charleston

Derigged, filling some holes

Made some sw/guage panels from sheet al. These were painted with the console

Installed the panels and made a dash lid

I am 90 % done with the wiring, This pic was a little earlier.

Console is installed in the boat all systems go.

I put the breaker panel in the dash pocket, right next to the switches. The VHF wiring has been run since this pic.

Thats all for now I'll post finish pics when I get the hatch covers done.
