what about facing the top with diamond plate or just any 1/8-1/4" thick alum plate?

I thought about that...but figure that stuff is probably expensive.

Figure out the size you need & try a recycling yard..... Some of the mob get actual SC parts for scrap weight pricing....

Might score an thick plate of some sort... diamond plate or other

The best thing for beefing up the bow for the TM is cheap cutting boards from the Dollar store. 1/2"thick plus a piece of ply under the aluminum and your good to go.

Got the TM mounted. It's def a behemoth. Only real issue I have with it is the head orientation. I need to rotate it a bit to get the steering cable to hang in a better position. Anyone know how to do this?

Im going to carpet the bow piece at some point.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with them yet.

Let me guess....you're looking for a set of rails.

If it's the older cable set up. If you loosen the knob where the shaft is held you can spin the whole unit to the position you want. It may cause the pedal to bottom out. If you need to change the motor to head orientation remove the top cover, 4 screws. Pop off the chain and rear sprocket. Spin the motor to where you want it in the deployed position. Get the head where you want it, re-install the chain with the chain centered, cable mounts equal on both sides. The petal should be at it's center point. Test in the stored position and adjust as required.

Sounds somewhat simple, but I'll probably take a few pics of all the components in the head before I start adjusting things. With my luck, I'll screw it all up in there.

Making more progress on the boat. Almost finished with carpet. Just need to carpet areas under the consoles...and the TM mount on the bow.

I'm also going to wire the bilge pumps to my TM battery in the bow. I don't want to take the chance of running my main battery down...if I need to pump out large amounts of water.

that's also a good plan since most boats are likely to go down stern first, so this would keep your pumps running as long as possible......

Just pondering this..... ......thought the goal of rebuilding was to make a dry boat.

Everyone has their own wish list --- dry boat on the inside is right up there on mine to :D .... suppose it doesn't hurt to have a back up plan though! :)

Lol, yes. I have a 71 SS that I am almost done restoring and I want to put bow rails on it. My folks had a 73 and I remember the bow rails on theirs. Nostalgia I guess.

Yup...I was hoping for a dry boat also, but I've got a large leak(s) somewhere. Been having to run the bilge pump a few times while out on the water lately. Quite a bit of water getting in somewhere.

Going to inspect the bottom of the boat to look for obvious holes etc.....if no joy, then I'll have to stick my head in the bilge to see if I can see where the water is coming from.

Today, I finally got a chance to run her WOT. Water wasnt flat, but was decent. Got her up to 36mph. That's pretty decent since last season....I hit 36mph only once...and that was for about 5 secs. And now the boat is a tad heavier with gear, heavier Trolling motor etc.
The CMC TNT is def a welcome addition.

You didn't hear this from me. When my tinny was re-floored, a rib was missed and the drill bit went through the wood and hull beside the rib. Kept asking why am I getting more water inside than from before? I refuse to look in a mirror in case I see the guilty party.

PS - I marked all rib locations so that wouldn't happen. And no fizzy pops involved either.

I was wondering the same thing. I'll check for drill holes and/or screws going through the hull etc. I'm hoping it's leaking somewhere on the transom though....much easier to find if that's the case.

Haven't checked for holes in the boat yet, but did get some work done today.

Got the bilge pump riveted to the knee brace...and replaced the clear hose(it was too short on first install). I also cut the bilge access area larger to be able to get at the pumps more easily.

I also wired my switch panel to the TM rather than the main "starting" battery. I don't run the main motor much when I go fishing, so it doesn't recharge the battery much....and I don't want to run down the main battery and then NOT be able to start the motor at the end of the day. The TM battery will handle the the bilge pumps, fishfinder etc with no problem.

Also mounted a simple rod holder to stow 2-3 rods.

Carpeted the bow piece...still need to trim it up though

Added another bilge pump the other day (Attwood Sahara 500 auto). Went fishing today and the auto-bilge pump worked well. It came on about every 60mins to evacuate the water that was getting in the boat.

I found out why I've been taking on quite a bit of water as of late.........LEAKY RIVETS!

I happened to see a few wet spots under the boat on the garage floor. I saw at least 6 rivets "weeping" water. crap!

I've been reading a bit about how to seal and/or replace the offending rivets....but haven't decided how I'm going to tackle this issue. I'm tempted to take a wire wheel to the bad rivets and then seal them with 3m 5200.

I splooged some JB Weld on the suspect-looking rivets on my Jupiter and it fixed the leaks. Not particularly attractive but it worked well.

I bet these guys wish they had 2 bilge pumps

I was treating my daughter to some riverside Cuban cuisine, when I see a glasser limping back to port...surprised that they made it to the slip! Guessing they had a bad seal around their I/O
