Ok I went over today and removed the rest of the trim motor and wires out of the way. I removed the kicker motor bracket, ladder, and wires. Only thing not removed is the hold downs. In the picture you still see the deep finder, that has been removed. After getting a better look at the transom, I will not be removing the cap the way I was going to in the earlier post. What i will do is cut along the splash well since the wood does not come all the way to the top where the engine rest. Please let me know if my cut is not a good idea. I will reglass it in and seal the cap instead of using screws and a metal plate like before.

Looks like a plan. Have you checked the condition of the wood in your gunnels towards the rear of the deck?

Thanks and how would you replace them? I never it did before. I may not have to remove them.

You just need a rivet gun. They are inexpensive. Harbor Freight or Lowe's/Home Depot will have them. Make sure you use stainless or aluminum rivets.

Your extra hole in the bottom was probably for a livewell or something that's no longer plumbed. I can't comment on your cutting idea.

Everything in the back of the boat seems to be ok except the transom. All of the gunnel and down the side where I would tab to is good. THe stringers in the rear here are ok too. I am not sure about under the deck but water does not run under the deck. Thanks

Today I went I started to dig out the transom. I dug out the port side of the transom. Here are some pictures. It took me 3.5 hours to clean this one side. I had to get into that little crawl space. Lucky I am small and flexible. I still have a little in the bottom corner and along the bottom.

Sometimes it goes that way for many different reasons. You're looking good! Let's see page 11 :]

I have a question. If I was to cut to cap at the splash well as detailed in the picture. Could I raise the transom to prevent backsplash when I slow down? Then glass the cap to the boat sealing it with 1708?

Yup. You will need to know the turning radius of your motor so there is no conflict.

I am still working on the boat. Here is a picture of the cap cut so I can use the chainsaw to get that wood out. I have been thinking of just making an inner skin and buying seacast and pouring it in. I have doubts about putting the transom in piece by piece like the image i saw in another post. If I do wood that would be my option because the entire piece of wood will not go in unless i cut the splashwell all the way out. Since the post i have already chainsaw yesterday, just forgot to take pictures.img.jpg

Just wondering how you are able to get all the wood out of the transom from just that access?

I could access it but it was very tiring laying on my side trying to hammer and chisel at the same time. That chainsaw did the job on it is making it very easy to get the wood out now. I added a link to what I did today. Only work for about an hour. Work at home has picked up so when I take a break and need to think I go over to the boat with the dog and start digging. I have to sharpen my chisel now.

Just not sure why you haven't cut out the cap like you were going to do earlier or attack the repair from the rear. You get onto photo bucket or some other mode of phot views.

kcassells Yeah I know I've been procrastinating on taking that cap off finally did it today though wasn't hard just pulled it right off it was ready to come off after the cut at the rod holders, here's some pictures. Yes and I'm using my Google Drive to upload photos because I have to go through too much to resize them and then upload them on the website
